Today marks 24 years since the tragic events of 9/11, a day that forever changed the world. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost, and countless others were touched by grief, sacrifice and bravery. Among those lost were 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and 60 medical professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Woodland Fire Protection District Board will meet on Monday, August 25th at 5:30, to set our tax rate for next year. The meeting will be at Station 3 in Grassy.

Our flags are at half-staff today in honor of Whitewater Fire Chief Garry Moore.

Today, in honor of Whitewater Fire Protection District Chief Garry Moore, I ordered U.S. and Missouri flags be flown at half-staff at government buildings in Cape Girardeau County, the Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri in Kingdom City, and firehouses statewide on Thursday, April 10.

We offer our deepest condolences to the friends, family and the whitewater fire protection district on the passing of Fire Chief Garry Moore last night while working the storms. Our hearts go out to all that was affected by yesterday’s storms. We pray everyone is safe and all first responders stay safe during the storm clean up procedures.

DANGEROUS WILDFIRE CONDITIONS EXPECTED WEDNESDAY... A combination of strong southwest winds, low relative humidity, and dry vegetation will result in a fire danger, especially during the afternoon hours.
..RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM CDT WEDNESDAY
FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR ALL OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
AND PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS...

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Red Flag
Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect
from 11 AM to 8 PM CDT Wednesday.

* Affected Area...In Illinois, Fire Weather Zones 075, 076, 080,
081, 082, 084, 085, 086, 088, 089, 092 and 093. In Missouri,
Fire Weather Zones 076, 086, 087, 098, 100, 106, 107, 108,
109, 110, 111, 112 and 114.

* Winds...Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Relative Humidity...As low as 18 to 24 percent.

* 10 Hour Fuels...as low as 6 to 8 percent.

* Impacts...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
