Severe winds can hit before the rain even starts! 💨 Downbursts from monsoon thunderstorms can produce winds over 80 mph, causing property damage. Secure outdoor furniture and loose items ahead of the monsoon. Be prepared for power outages and stay away from windows during high winds.

When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors! 🌩️ The monsoon brings spectacular lightning shows to the Southwest, but lightning is deadly. No place outside is safe when a thunderstorm is nearby. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck. Wait 30 minutes after the last rumble before going back out.

Important reminder as prepare for the monsoon.

Turn Around, Don't Drown! 🌊 It only takes 6 inches of fast-moving water to knock an adult down and 12 inches to sweep away a small car. Flash floods can happen in an instant, even miles away from a storm. Be extra cautious near burn scars, where debris flows can occur with little warning.

We're proud to see members of our Public Works Streets Team giving back to the community on their own time.👏

Several Town employees volunteered alongside local businesses and community partners to help improve the batting cage facility for Marana High School softball players. This was a volunteer effort completed outside of work hours and was not a Town project or funded with Town resources.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and expertise to support local students and athletics.

SANDBAG LOCATIONS: Get ready for this year's monsoon by visiting one of our three self-filling sandbag locations.

📍10050 North Coachline Blvd. (behind the Pima County Water Reclamation Center)
📍4228 West Tangerine Rd. (northeast corner of Camino de Mañana and Tangerine Road)
📍Heritage Park parking lot, 12280 North Heritage Park Drive

⛈️Our Monsoon Preparedness Plan is also now in effect.

To ensure a rapid response during storm events, the Public Works Department has designated staff to key areas throughout the community to address storm-related roadway hazards and help with emergency operations as needed. The department has also increased employee training to prepare staff for monsoon response efforts.

“We do have some newer staff members, and we want to make sure they feel supported and are ready to assist with response teams, equipment and clearing any debris on roadways, if necessary,” said Streets Superintendent Adrian Rojel. “Our number one priority is protecting the citizens of Marana and we are prepared to do that.”

The Town of Marana has activated its Storm Preparedness Plan ahead of the 2026 monsoon season and has opened self-filling sandbag locations to help residents prepare for potential severe weather.
