Scrapbook Saturdays: a Junk Journaling Mini-Series

Bind your own junk journal in the first workshop in our three-part miniseries focused on the art of scrapbooking, junk journaling, collage, and more.

This event begins with an hour-long workshop with local artists Nicole Golden and Naomi Losman. Together we will each bind our own junk journal from various papers and discarded book pages. The second hour will be open studio time where you can work on your own scrapbook, junk journal, or collage.

Supplies will be provided but please feel free to bring your own scrapbook, journal, and/or scraps. *You do not need to attend all three events; registration for the October event will open on 10/1/26 and for the November event on 11/2/26.

Money Matters: financial education workshops for for students in 5th-8th grades

This 6-week program will cover saving, budgeting, and credit through interactive games. Students will use fake money and make real decisions. Students will gain knowledge about smart spending and budgeting, how to save money, how credit works, how to invest, and how to build wealth for the future.

We invite you to the first public screening of the student film ⁠
"The Maplewood Theater: The Show Must Go On", followed by a Q&A with the student filmmakers!⁠

Join the Maplewood Library and South Mountain Film Academy for the premiere of "The Maplewood Theater: The Show Must Go On," a short documentary shot and produced by the program’s Winter 2026 Documentary class. Made by local middle schoolers, the documentary explores the history of the Maplewood Theater and features interviews with local officials, business owners, and residents about the much-anticipated return of the movie theater, which closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.⁠

Following the event, there will be a Q&A with Christopher Cassidy, founder of the South Mountain Film Academy, and the student documentary filmmakers. A seasoned filmmaker, Cassidy will talk about how to navigate a career in the industry as well as New Jersey’s rising reputation as the “Hollywood East.” Members of the Maplewood Film Society will also be on hand to answer questions.⁠
