Co-hosted by Maplewood Memorial Library and CTK College Coach, the 4th Annual SOMA Story Slam celebrates graduating high school seniors as they transition to college. Christina Taber-Kewene, Rachel Fisher, and Stephanie Nasteff-Pilato, the essay writing coaches from CTK College Coach, will provide a brief introduction on how to write the college essay, and then selected seniors will read their college essays for the community.

High school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and parents are especially encouraged to attend and cheer on these scholars. After the essay readings, there will be a Q&A portion where the audience can ask for college application tips from the experts at CTK College Coach.

ESOL Class Registration for Beginner and Intermediate online classes will take place at the Hilton Branch, 1688 Springfield Ave. on Thursdays June 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 10AM - 12PM.

The online class session will run from July 7 - September 24 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9AM - 12PM.

The registration fee is $25 (credit/debit card or money order only) and students must bring two forms of ID to register.⁠

Students may also register at the LVAEP office (90 Broad St., Bloomfield, NJ) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1PM - 3PM.

We are thrilled to present this year's Maplewood Literary Award to Maplewood native Bruce Eric Kaplan, author, screenwriter, cartoonist and executive producer. Please join us for an award reception with Bruce on Thursday, May 21st at 7PM!⁠

Bruce Eric Kaplan is a wonderful fellow who writes for television and draws cartoons. In television, he has worked on shows such as Seinfeld, Six Feet Under, and Girls, and is currently an Executive Producer and Co-Showrunner of Nobody Wants This. ⁠

As a cartoonist, his work has regularly appeared in The New Yorker for over thirty years. Three collections of these cartoons have been published. They are No One You Know, This is a Bad Time, and I Love You, I Hate You, I’m Hungry.. He has written several picture books for adults including Every Person on this Planet, Edmund and Rosemary Go to Hell, and Everything is Going to be OK. ⁠

In addition, he has written and illustrated five picture books for children. His first, Monsters Eat Whiny Children, came out in 2010 and was an instant best seller. He has written two memoirs, I Was a Child and They Went Another Way, both published to great critical acclaim.⁠

This class is for students who have a good command of English and want to increase their English vocabulary and improve expressive skills.

Students interested in the conversation class must register first
through our website at the link below AND take a pre-test to join the class.

The pre-test will be given on May 28th at the Hilton Branch Library at 1688 Springfield Ave, between 6:30PM-7:30PM.
