Maplewood Police Department

The upcoming holidays are for joy and family not tragedy. Stay safe Maplewood.

10/21/2026

October 21, 2022, our police department experienced a profound loss with the passing of Chief Jim DeVaul. As we mark this anniversary, we want to acknowledge the significance of this day and the lasting impact he had on our work and the Maplewood Community, that he adored. He was someone who consistently brought people together—through collaboration, encouragement, and a genuine interest in everyone’s well‑being. Anniversaries can be difficult, and it’s important to recognize that grief doesn’t follow a single timeline. Some may feel the weight of this day more than others, and all responses are completely valid. His contributions continue to shape our department’s values. His commitment to excellence, willingness to help, and his steady optimism remain part of how we should all work together. Today, we honor those qualities and the man who embodied them so fully.

🚸 **PEDESTRIAN SAFETY AWARENESS** 🚸

🚶‍♂️ **Look Out for Each Other!** 🚗

Pedestrian safety is everyone’s responsibility! Let’s work together to keep our streets safe.

✅ **Drivers:**

* Slow down and stay alert, especially in school zones and residential areas.
* Always yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
* Put your phone away and never drive distracted.
* Watch carefully for children and pedestrians near intersections.

✅ **Pedestrians:**

* Use crosswalks and obey traffic signals.
* Look left, right, and left again before crossing.
* Make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the roadway.
* Stay visible, especially at night.

💙 **One moment of caution can save a life.** Let’s make every step and every drive a safe one!

💜 **OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH** 💜

The Maplewood Police Department stands together with survivors and advocates in raising awareness about domestic violence.

💜 Speak up and help end domestic violence

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available through the **National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)** or **[www.thehotline.org](http://www.thehotline.org)**.
