There are more than 500 people in Ramsey County with no way to get out of the cold.

Tonight, the wind is expected to whip at up to 40 miles an hour with a wind chill around 20 below zero – and we’re going to do our part to help people stay warm by opening the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center for the night.

Anyone in need of a safe, warm place to stay can come to the LEC from 7:30 p.m. tonight (Dec. 4) until 7:30 a.m. tomorrow (Dec. 5).
Law enforcement personnel from across the county will be available to bring people to the LEC starting at 7:30 tonight.

Tonight will be brutally cold and uncooperatively windy in Ramsey County. Thanks for helping us make sure as many people as possible are safe and warm.

HOW TO HELP:

- Call the Ramsey County non-emergency number (651-291-1111) if you know of someone who needs transportation to the LEC for the night

- Call 911 if you see someone who appears to be in immediate danger or needs medical attention

- Donate mittens, socks, hats and other warm weather gear at the LEC during normal business hours

And, if you’re interested in learning more about the scope and scale of the challenge, take a look at the latest Live on Patrol stream (link in comments).

I’m thrilled about the many projects underway in Maplewood and those on the horizon. One of the most exciting aspects for me is that many people will soon be able to call Maplewood home. As our community evolves, embracing new development is essential to ensuring our city operates sustainably. I’m proud to support many of the initiatives highlighted in this video. It’s been an incredible honor to serve the residents of Maplewood, and I look forward to the bright future we’re building together.

Let’s talk trash!!! Earlier this week I toured our recycling partner’s facility, Tennis Sanitation in Saint Paul Park, with a few members from our Environmental Commission and Maplewood City staff. I’m proud of Maplewood’s environmental effort to protect our planet for the next generation. Remember to Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle!

Last week Mayor Abrams, City Manager Mike Sable and I attended the Annual League of Minnesota Cities Conference in Rochester. I met many great municipal leaders from around Minnesota. Outside of the many great conversations about local governance, I can say that no matter the size of your city, we all have one common problem….Potholes.

Leadership Day at Weaver Elementary. Maybe it’s because I’m a dad - maybe not - but I was profoundly proud of these students who demonstrated such enthusiasm and promise in becoming our future leaders. Shout out to ISD 622 North St. Paul - Maplewood - Oakdale and for the continual investment in our children and shaping the next generation of leaders. Thank you Weaver Elementary for allowing me to participate.
