The National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook for June through September was released today, and parts of the West are expected to see increased wildfire potential this summer.

As of May 31:
• Over 2.4 million acres have already burned nationwide
• Wildfire activity is well above the 10 year average
• Fire potential is expected to increase across portions of the western U.S.

Now is the time to prepare your family and home for wildfire season. We encourage all residents to review evacuation plans, create defensible space around homes, and stay fire aware during Utah’s hot, dry summer months.

Mapleton Fire Rescue Brush 102 is currently assisting on a new brush fire in Birdseye. Residents in the Mapleton area may notice drift smoke in the valley from this incident.

With current drought conditions, low humidity, and windy weather across the region, we ask all residents to be extra vigilant and practice good fire safety and fire wise principles. Please avoid activities that could spark a fire.

This is National EMS Week 🚑🚒!

May 17 through May 23, 2026 is a week dedicated to recognizing our nation’s amazing EMS professionals and the lifesaving work they do every day.

Today, Mapleton Volunteer Firefighter Angela Barnett set out to honor the men and women who serve on the front lines, and she did it in an incredible way.

Angela completed an amazing 23.92 mile run from Pleasant Grove Fire Station 71 to Mapleton Fire Station 101, all while wearing firefighter turnout gear and carrying an American flag in recognition of EMS Week and the firefighters, EMTs, AEMTs, paramedics, nurses, dispatchers, and emergency responders who dedicate their lives to serving others.

Angela serves our community not only as a volunteer firefighter with Mapleton Fire Rescue, but also full time as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse with IHC. Her dedication to caring for others, both inside the hospital and in the fire service, is truly inspiring.

In Angela’s words:

“Becoming a firefighter saved me and gave me a purpose far bigger than myself, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to serve the community of Mapleton.”

We are incredibly proud to have Angela as part of the Mapleton Fire family and grateful for her commitment, compassion, and service to others.

During EMS Week, we recognize and thank all our fellow firefighters, EMTs, AEMTs, paramedics, nurses, dispatchers, and emergency responders for the sacrifices they make every day to protect and care for our communities. Your dedication truly makes a difference.

Thank you, Angela, for representing the spirit of service, resilience, and commitment that defines EMS professionals everywhere.
