Financial Assistance Available for Tree Removal and Replacement

Hennepin County is offering financial assistance to help eligible low-income homeowners remove and replace trees on their properties.

This program is funded through a U.S. Forest Service grant and is designed to improve our community's tree canopy resilience against climate change, severe weather, pests, and extreme heat. The program also helps address the ongoing impacts of the emerald ash borer throughout Hennepin County.

* The application takes less than 20 minutes to complete.
* Only one application is allowed per address.
* Applicants will be asked to provide household and income information.

After the application period closes, 100 tree removal projects will be selected through a random drawing. The number of selected applicants from each city will be based on that city's share of the county population. Final approval is subject to income verification and other program requirements.

If you think you may qualify, we encourage you to apply!Complete an application here: https://beheardhennepin.org/urban-community-forestry

Help Protect Maple Plain's Sewer System!

Did you know that many products labeled as "flushable" don't actually break down in the sewer system?

Items such as wipes, tissues, paper towels, and other paper products can collect in sewer pipes, pumps, and lift stations, causing costly blockages and equipment damage. These repairs require additional City resources and can ultimately increase costs for utility customers and taxpayers.

Please remember: the only things that should be flushed are human waste and toilet paper.

Do NOT flush:
• Flushable wipes
• Baby wipes
• Facial tissues
• Paper towels
• Napkins
• Feminine hygiene products
• Any other paper products

Instead, place these items in the trash.

By making this simple change, you can help prevent sewer backups, reduce maintenance costs, and keep Maple Plain's wastewater system operating efficiently for everyone.

Thank you for doing your part to protect our community's infrastructure!

Door-to-Door Sales in Maple Plain? Know Before You Open the Door.

The City of Maple Plain requires individuals conducting door-to-door sales, solicitation, or peddling activities to obtain a valid City-issued Peddler and Solicitor License before operating within the city.

To help protect residents and promote responsible business practices, all licensed solicitors are required to carry a copy of their approved license while conducting business in Maple Plain.

Residents: Before engaging with a door-to-door salesperson, ask to see their City-issued license. Legitimate solicitors should be able to provide proof that they have been approved to operate in the community.

If someone is selling products, services, or soliciting business without a valid license, please contact West Hennepin Public Safety at 763-479-0500. Prompt reporting helps protect the community and ensures compliance with local licensing requirements.

Together, we can help keep Maple Plain safe while supporting responsible business activity.

Street Improvement: Industrial Street Water Main Replacement Project Update

Beginning June 2, 2026, contractors will start replacing the water main along Industrial Street. This work is an important part of the City's efforts to maintain reliable water infrastructure and support long-term service improvements throughout the community.

As part of the project, crews will be installing new gate valves and fire hydrants along the water main corridor. Gate valves allow portions of the water system to be isolated for maintenance or emergency repairs, while hydrants help ensure adequate fire protection and system operation. Contractors anticipate completing the installation of these components by the end of the week, weather permitting.

Following the installation of the water main, gate valves, and hydrants, the project will move into the testing phase. Beginning next week, crews will conduct pressure testing, disinfection, and water quality testing on the newly installed water main. These tests are required to verify that the new infrastructure meets state and industry standards before it is placed into service.

Residents may notice construction equipment, materials, and crews working in the area throughout the project. The City encourages motorists and pedestrians to use caution near construction zones and follow all posted traffic control signs.

The City appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and visitors as these important infrastructure improvements are completed.

The City of Maple Plain would like to share important information from West Hennepin Public Safety regarding the safe and legal use of e-bikes and motorized bicycles.

Recently, WHPS has received questions and concerns related to e-bikes in the community. Bicycles equipped with motors may be classified either as an e-bike or a motorized bicycle depending on their specifications, and different state laws apply to each type.

Minnesota State Statutes outline specific requirements for operation, and it is the rider’s responsibility to understand and follow those requirements. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to help children and teens understand the rules before riding.

The City and WHPS encourage all riders to operate safely, responsibly, and respectfully to help keep our streets, trails, and neighborhoods safe for everyone.

We have fielded some questions and some concerns about e-bikes lately so we thought we would put out some information that will help everyone understand the rules for use of the different pieces of equipment. Bicycles with motors may be classified as an E-Bike or a Motorized Bicycle depending on their specifications and it is critical to know the difference. State statute is clear on requirements for each and it is the rider’s responsibility to know what those requirements are. Parents and caregivers are asked to help their children understand the requirements as well. Safe and responsible riding is necessary, regardless of what is being used.
