The paved trails in the Baker Recreation Area will be closed for resurfacing Monday, September 14, through Friday, September 18.

All trails will reopen in the afternoon on the 18th, once the resurfacing material has had enough time to dry.

Please pay attention to all construction signs and avoid closed sections of trail! Thank you for helping us keep our trails in great condition,

The internet has been down at the Baker Park Reserve since around noon today, Monday August 17th. This has been the longest we have been without internet and our IT department is working hard to solve this outage. Because we have no internet, our phone system is also down. At Baker Park Reserve, you might see some very large wasps called Cicada Killers. Although these wasps are large, and the females are capable of stinging, they are very docile. Cicada Killers rarely sting humans unless they are handled roughly. So, the best thing to do when a Cicada Killer approaches you is to stay calm, and they will likely fly away!

We typically see Cicada Killers nesting near the Baker Boat Rental building on the shores of Lake Independence. You will see some caution signs posted near their nesting areas. If you are particularly nervous about these wasps, steer clear of areas with warning signs posted.

Interested in camping, but not sure where to start? Try-It Camping might be the program for you!

The Program Fee includes a campsite, gear box, hands-on instruction from experienced & friendly staff, and programming on the Saturday of your reservation.

You will receive more information, packing list, campfire recipes, and a helpful video on tent set up two weeks before your reservation.

The Knots & Lashing Explorer Bin has equipment and materials related to learning how to tie knots and do lashings (connecting sticks with rope). Including instructional guides, construction inspiration, and games/activities!

The Explorer Bin has enough equipment to accommodate up to 15 people. Perfect for a family looking to try something new, or a scout troop that needs to practice their knots.

There are so many things to do at Baker Park Reserve this holiday weekend!

Swim in Lake Independence. Hike the trails. Have a picnic. Play at the Play Area. Do the Baker tree scavenger hunt. Borrow an Explorer Backpack. Borrow a volleyball. Rent watercraft, bikes, and fishing rods! If you want to ensure that you get the equipment you want, you can reserve in advance:

Can you spot our maintenance team working hard to get B-loop ready?

We are now booking B-loop! This area has been undergoing electrical construction for the past year and now offers 30/50 amp capacity. The earliest date you can reserve for is Friday, June 19th.

Because of the construction, there has been damage to the turf, so expect some bare areas. As a reminder, mats are only allowed on the gravel pad of the site.

We are now accepting reservations for F-loop in Baker Campground! This area has been undergoing electrical construction for the past year and now offers 30/50 amp capacity.
