Meet our team -

Introducing our wonderful home delivery driver, McKale! Delivering to 45 households weekly, she ensures that neighbors who can’t make it to our facility can still be supplied with nutritious food. “I wanted to make a more direct difference in my community.”

Outside of her volunteer time with us, McKale also runs a micro-bakery, substitutes for the Mt. Baker school district, and tends her homestead.

Have you ever wondered where your local food bank actually gets its food?

The answer might surprise you. To give you a real picture, here's a look at a sample month–March–and where our food came from:

While a third of what we distribute comes from partner organizations, donations, and federal programs, the majority of our food is purchased directly. That includes nearly all of our dairy, proteins, and fresh produce–items that make a real difference in the quality of meals our neighbors take home.

That means your monetary donations aren't just appreciated–they're essential.

We believe everyone deserves access to good, nourishing food. And we're deeply grateful to be part of a community that makes that possible.

Here's what a monthly gift looks like in action:
• $50/month → Pantry staples for 5 families
• $100/month → Fresh produce for 30 households
• $500/month → Stocks our entire food bank for one full distribution day

Every dollar goes directly toward feeding our neighbors. Ready to make an impact? Link in bio.

The best produce our clients receive comes straight from farms like this one.

Through our Local Food Purchasing Program, we partner with local growers to bring fresh, diverse, and nutritious food to families in East Whatcom County. Empyrean Farm's commitment to regenerative agriculture, regional seed diversity, and local resilience makes them a true community partner in every sense.

When farms and food banks work together, the whole community eats better.

Stay tuned! We're teaming up with Empyrean Farm this summer for our biggest fundraiser of the year, and you won't want to miss it. 🚜🌾

Volunteer Spotlight!

Meet Mark Rothenberg — a volunteer who truly lives to serve. From making coffee at the East Whatcom Regional Resource Center to stocking our distribution floor, Mark shows up every week with heart. "Helping others is in my blood," he says — and his actions prove it.

We're so grateful for Mark and all of our dedicated volunteers who bring not just food, but kindness and connection to our community.

We’re not very good at plant puns, thistle have to do.

🌱We’re currently looking for weekly volunteers beginning in early May to help our garden grow! 🌱All food grown in our garden goes to the food bank for distribution - we aim to build a garden by community members and for community members.

Did you know we offer home delivery?

Every Tuesday, our staff and volunteers deliver fresh and pre-packed food boxes to neighbors who can’t make it to our facility. Signing up is simple — just share your address and household size.

Thanks to the North Sound ACH, we’ve expanded beyond one-size-fits-all boxes to include options tailored to specialized health needs. Swipe to see the four box types, in order: Low Sodium, Heart Healthy, Gluten Free, and Basic.

Interested or know someone who might be? Visit our website or give us a call at 360-392-8149.

🌟 Volunteer Highlight: Angela 🌟

Angela has been a dedicated volunteer with us for the past two and a half years—joining us right from the start of our Thursday night distributions!

Her hard work, positive attitude, and flexibility make a huge difference each week. Whether she’s stocking shelves or warmly welcoming clients, Angela is always ready to jump in wherever she’s needed most.

Like many of our amazing volunteers, Angela brings a wealth of experience from her professional life as a program manager. But what she loves most about volunteering?

“It’s nice to connect with the community and meet all sorts of neighbors—everyone is super friendly.”

When she’s not volunteering, Angela enjoys biking, hiking, and gardening.

Angela, thank you for your continued dedication and the energy you bring to our community. We’re so grateful for you!
