🚨Press Release: Fire Incident Update🚨

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, a fire ignited near Walmart on Highway 171, reportedly caused by a vehicle dragging a chain. This initial blaze sparked multiple fires, prompting a swift response from both the Central Sabine Fire Department and North Sabine Fire District.

Under challenging conditions of drought and wind, the fire spread rapidly, approaching the Sabine Parish Landfill. Chief Nick Spann of the North Sabine Fire District confirmed that the fire near the landfill was successfully contained and extinguished.

However, he did communicate that the fire reignited this morning. The North Sabine Fire District is actively addressing the situation and closely monitoring the area. As of now, the Sabine Landfill remains safe and is not under threat.

We appreciate the hard work of our firefighters and urge the community to remain vigilant during these dry conditions. Thank you for your understanding and support.

At this time, we would like to remind citizens that we are under a parish-wide burn ban and to take every necessary precaution to prevent fires.

The Heat Wave shows no signs of giving way as flash drought conditions continue across the entire Four State Region. As a result, much of the region is under a Burn Ban at this time. The wildfire threat will continue.
