STORM DAMAGE REPORTING - GLOUCESTER COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Gloucester County OEM is asking residents to report any damage to homes resulting from Tuesday evening’s (09/01/2026) storm. This information will help the County and Local Municipalities understand the extent of the storm’s impact on our communities.

When completing the form:

• Name & Phone: Enter your contact information or the information of someone assisting you.

While neither the County nor the State is currently anticipating pursuing a disaster declaration for this incident, it is important that we document the impact to our residents and community.

Today was a difficult but important day for our community as residents, first responders, public works personnel, and volunteers worked throughout Mantua Township to address the damage caused by last night’s storm.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of those who were impacted. While the damage is significant in some areas, we are grateful that, by the grace of God, there were no significant reported injuries. Our community will recover, and we will continue to work together to help our residents and neighborhoods move forward.

During today’s early morning clean-up efforts, I had the privilege of meeting Zeke Fellona, a young Mantua resident who was already outside taking responsibility for his own property and helping with the clean-up process.

Zeke’s actions are a powerful reminder that leadership and community spirit have no age requirement. He stepped up, led by example, and demonstrated the pride and sense of responsibility that make Mantua such a strong and wonderful community.

As Mayor, I am proud to recognize young residents like Zeke who understand that being part of a community means doing your part, especially when times are difficult.

Zeke represents the resilience, responsibility, and the strength of character that we stand for in Mantua Township. His example is one that we should all be proud of.

Thank you, Zeke, for stepping up and reminding us that every individual has the ability to make a difference.

STORM DAMAGE UPDATE:

We are actively responding to storm damage throughout the community following the storm last night (Tuesday night, 09/01/26).

Township Officials, including myself, met with representatives from the Operations and Assessment Team from Atlantic City Electric this morning at 10:30 A.M. We gathered on-site at the New York Avenue Electric Sub-Station for a briefing on how the storm significantly damaged the substation which is untimely creating the majority of our power outages. We have been given an ETR (Estimated Time of Restoration) of 11:00 P.M. tonight (Wednesday, 09/02/26) for those without power.

Please keep in mind, that the Sub-Station restoration is a priority as it's the result of approximately 1200 homes without power throughout our community - and others in the Oak Valley section of Deptford Township. Other areas with downed power lines from tree strikes, etc. resulting in smaller isolated outages may take longer for restoration, as these are secondary areas of concern.

Our Public Works, OEM, Police, Fire and Emergency Response Teams are still working to assess the damages, address hazards, and restore affected areas as quickly and safely as possible.

TOWNSHIP FACILITIES:

Municipal Court Building: The Municipal Court building is closed at this time due to a power outage. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

TRASH & RECYCLING COLLECTION DELAYS:

Please keep your trash and recycling containers at the curb until your collection has been completed.

There are currently delays in trash and recycling collection as crews are unable to get collection trucks down certain residential streets due to storm-related debris and damage.

We appreciate your patience as our crews work to safely access these areas and complete collections.

DAMAGED TRASH CONTAINERS:

If your trash or recycling container was damaged during the storm, please contact the Public Works Office at 856-468-1500, ext. 110.

ROAD CLOSURES / RESTRICTIONS:

The following roads are closed or have restrictions:

Berkley Road
Route 45 to Cedar Road
Franklin Road
Hickory and New York Avenues
Mantua Boulevard to Center Street

Do not drive around barricades or road closures. These areas are closed for your safety and for the safety of the crews working to clear debris.

DOWNED TREES / BRANCHES:

Crews are working on clearing the roadways to allow vehicle traffic. Please stack trees and debris in between the sidewalk and grass. Do not place trees and debris in the street.

PLEASE USE CAUTION:

Residents are asked to avoid areas with downed trees, downed wires, flooding or other storm-related hazards. Never approach or touch a downed power line. Please report hazards to emergency services by calling 911.

Our priority is the overall safety of our community, and the prompt restoration of our roads, facilities and services.

MANTUA TOWNSHIP STATEMENT REGARDING AMAZON DRONE DELIVERIES

Mayor Zimmerman and the Mantua Township Committee have received questions regarding Amazon’s drone delivery operations.

To be clear, Mantua Township does not control the airspace over the Township. Airspace and the operation of aircraft, including delivery drones, fall under the authority of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Amazon’s drone operations have received the necessary federal approvals to operate within the authorized airspace.

The drone delivery hub is located in West Deptford Township. Matters involving the hub, including its site, land use, and zoning, fall under the jurisdiction of West Deptford Township.

Mantua Township’s authority is limited to matters within its jurisdiction, including the use of public property. Amazon has advised the Township that the drone will deliver directly to the customer’s designated location and will not be landing on Mantua Township public property.

In response to concerns about privacy, security and data collection, Chief Murphy spoke with Rich Swayze, Regulatory Specialist, from Amazon today August 25th who indicated that:

“Prime Air drones use onboard cameras and sensors for navigation, obstacle detection, and safe delivery. The cameras help the drone see where it's going and operate independently, they are not viewed live by any person.”

Mr. Swayze also provided the following additional details:

• “There is a Detect & Avoid (DAA) system that does collect video data - it is used by the system; the flight monitors do not see the video during flight.”

• “This video is used by the system to track other manned aircraft in the vicinity and to perform avoidance maneuvers if the system determines there is a potential conflict with another manned aircraft.”

• “The data is not retained unless it is determined that there is a safety issue with the specific flight that warrants further analysis. If there are no issues with the flight the data is recorded over during the following flights.”

• “If it is determined a flight does warrant further safety analysis then the data is downloaded. The data is stored in a controlled/protected database for which a very limited number of Prime Air staff have access.”

• “Prime Air would share with the FAA and/or NTSB if requested for safety purposes.”

• “None of this operational flight data collected by the drone is sold.”

We understand that residents have questions and concerns. However, the Township cannot regulate or prohibit the use of FAA-approved airspace over Mantua Township. Where and how a customer receives a delivery on private property is not controlled by the Township.

Amazon officials were asked if any type of community engagement outreach for residents or customers is planned. Amazon indicated that they generally do host this type of community event but could not confirm a date at this time.
