🚒 Great job to everyone who completed TECC training!

In August, four firefighters from the City Of Manton Fire Department , along with firefighters from Cherry Grove Fire Rescue and McBain Community Fire Department, completed a 3-day TECC (Tactical Emergency Casualty Care) class.

This was a great training opportunity, taught by some amazing instructors The BDI team. The knowledge and skills gained will help our firefighters be better prepared to respond when they’re needed most.

Great job, everyone! Stay safe and keep training! 👏🚒

Tonight, as we lay our heads down, may we do so with gratitude in our hearts. Tomorrow is never promised.

On this night, 25 years ago…
• 246 passengers went to sleep, preparing for their morning flights.
• 2,606 people went to sleep, ready for another day of work.
• 343 firefighters went to sleep, set to serve their morning shift.
• 60 police officers went to sleep, preparing for patrol.
• 8 paramedics went to sleep, ready to answer tomorrow’s calls.

None of them saw past 10:00am on September 11, 2001. 💔

This is our reminder that in a single moment, life can change forever. So tonight—hold your loved ones close. Snuggle them tighter. Say the words. Live with no regrets. And never, ever take a single breath for granted.

Our department is absolutely shocked and heartbroken to hear about the passing of Chief Mike Long.

Chief Long was one of the kindest souls I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and calling a friend. He had an incredible impact on so many people and will be deeply missed.

I was fortunate enough to work closely with Mike for eight years before his retirement. We shared countless calls together—accidents, fires, medical calls, handing out fire department and police department car show trophies and tons and tons of parades. But some of my favorite memories were simply sitting around solving all of the world’s problems. 😉

It was always great seeing Mike’s excitement as he would show me the progress on the retirement home he and Karla were building in Florida. I was even just recently joking with Mike about his Manton home going up for sale and telling him they could always move back. 😁

Chief Long was a truly great man who was taken from us far too soon. His friendship, kindness, humor, and dedication will never be forgotten.

The City of Manton Fire Department and everyone in Manton are keeping Mike, Karla, and his entire family in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Today we want to wish one of our amazing firefighters, **Rachel Tidey**, a very Happy Birthday! 🚒🔥

Rachel is the perfect example of dedication and commitment to the fire service. She is **ALWAYS training, taking extra fire service classes, learning, and finding new ways to expand her knowledge and skills**. She does all of this while working and going to college!

Her drive to continue learning and become the best she can be is truly something to be proud of. We are incredibly fortunate to have Rachel as part of our department, and we appreciate all the time, effort, and dedication she puts into serving others.

🚒 MANTON FIRE DEPARTMENT MILLAGE RENEWAL – WHAT ARE YOU VOTING ON? 🚒

I’ve had several people ask what the Fire Department millage actually pays for, so I wanted to share some information before Election Day.

This proposal is a renewal of the existing Fire Department millage. The funding helps ensure our Fire Department has the equipment, training, and resources needed to respond when emergencies happen. ***THIS MILLAGE ONLY APPLIES TO RESIDENTS INSIDE THE CITY LIMITS***

The millage helps pay for things like:
🔥 Fire trucks and emergency vehicles
🧑‍🚒 Firefighter turnout gear and protective equipment
🚑 Rescue and emergency response equipment
🧯 Fire hoses, tools, and other essential equipment
🔧 Maintenance and repairs to trucks and equipment
📚 Ongoing firefighter training and certifications

***This is not a new millage***. It is a renewal of an existing millage that also restores the rate to the level originally approved by voters after it was reduced over time due to Michigan’s Headlee Amendment.

What does the Fire Protection Millage
Renewal cost?
This proposal renews the existing fire protection millage at 0.5 mills, which equals 50 cents for every $1,000 of your home's taxable value.
Example annual costs:
$50,000 taxable value = $25/year
$100,000 taxable value = $50/year
$150,000 taxable value = $75/year

Remember: This is based on your home's taxable value, not what your home would sell
