Local nonprofit Theatre of Dare's summer production is Greater Tuna - a fast-paced comedy that has delighted theatergoers for more than four decades.

The show will be on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from June 24 through August 13. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on June 24 and 25, July 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30, and August 5, 6, 12 and 13.

Greater Tuna features actors Mike Blanchard and Leah Cribb as radio DJs Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie, who serve as guides through the eccentric world of Tuna, known as "the third smallest town" in Texas.

Tickets are $20 and may be purchased online at theatreofdareobx.com or at the door, subject to availability. The production is rated PG-13 for adult themes and language.

As we wrap up a record-breaking scholarship season, we are proud and honored to have created promising opportunities by making a college education more affordable and accessible for many local students.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, the Outer Banks Community Foundation awarded 129 scholarships totaling $306,750 to 102 students.

Students from First Flight High School, Manteo High School, Cape Hatteras Secondary School, Currituck High School, Dare Learning Academy, J.P. Knapp Early College, North Carolina School of Math and Science, Ocracoke School, Wanchese Christian Academy, and a homeschool student received Community Foundation scholarships from funds established by local donors and organizations.

Our office on Roanoke Island will be closed today (Friday, June 19) in observance of Juneteenth. We will reopen on Monday, June 22 with normal hours.

Pea Island Preservation Society, Inc. is hosting their sixth annual Juneteenth celebration today at 5:30pm at the Pea Island Cookhouse Museum in Manteo. This is a free community event.

Our second Community Enrichment Grant application deadline of 2026 is Friday, July 31.

Community Enrichment Grants are open to all types of projects with no restrictions on scope or focus, with funding requests up to $10,000. Early submissions are encouraged to allow time for review and feedback.

Nonprofits are encouraged to visit OBCF.org/grants for detailed guidelines, eligibility criteria, and the application portal.

In a place like the Outer Banks, community isn’t just a word. It’s a way of life. And for Terry Gray, it was a calling.

He was born and raised here, shaped by generations who believed in public service and neighborly responsibility. That sense of duty carried him into local leadership, where he became a familiar and trusted voice—someone who didn’t just represent people, but stood beside them. Whether it was weathering storms, advocating for better systems, or simply listening, Terry believed deeply in doing the right thing for the right reasons.

That spirit—humble, generous, and deeply rooted in community—is what inspired the creation of the Terry Gray Memorial Charity Fund through the Outer Banks Community Foundation. The fund is designed to carry Terry’s legacy forward in the way he would have wanted: by helping others without fanfare and by focusing on those who need it most. It will provide grants across a wide range of causes, with a special emphasis on supporting children and families—especially those who might otherwise go unseen.

It is no secret that Glenn Eure Ghost Fleet Gallery is an Outer Banks treasure, and this amazing story written by Brian Tress shines light on how special Pat Eure is to our community.
