Mayor Darnell Waites Reflects on the 25th Anniversary of 9/11

“September 11, 2001, remains one of the darkest days in American history. Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives and the countless families and communities forever changed by that day.

But I also remember how America came together. In the face of tragedy, we stood together as one nation, putting differences aside and showing compassion, courage and strength.

Today, we honor those who were lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the military members and veterans who served in the aftermath. We also recognize those who continue to suffer from illnesses connected to the attacks and their aftermath.

As we remember the September 11 attacks, let us focus on the unity that emerged from that tragedy and carry that spirit into our communities. Let’s stand together, look out for one another and honor the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving others.

We remember. We honor. We stand together. And we will never forget.

— Mayor Darnell Waites

We were excited to join Walmart for its Grand Reopening and celebrate a fresh new look.

Mayor Jones shared a few words and Chief Bryan Ross was recognized alongside Chief Michelle Thomas, Council Member Christopher Thomas. Ronnie Morris led prayer and was also recognized.

Our Mansfield High School band and cheerleaders brought the energy 🎶 and Council Member Jeter Jones even treated everyone to a performance of his own!

It was definitely a HOT one but good music, good people, and a great reason to come together made it worth braving the Louisiana heat. ☀️😅

Congratulations to our Mansfield Walmart team on the reopening, and thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate!
