In this important interview, CACY Executive Director Tracee Anderson discusses the 2026 theme for World Su***de Prevention Day and Su***de Prevention Month: “Start the Conversation.”

Anderson explains that men account for approximately 70% to 85% of su***de deaths in Richland County. Many are employed and connected to families, friends and social groups reminding us that someone can appear connected while still struggling privately.

She also shares warning signs and the “3 C’s of Caring”:

• Connection - Ask questions, listen and create space for honest conversations about feelings.

• Collaboration - Work alongside someone who is struggling and help connect them with appropriate support.

• Choice - Empower people and support the positive choices they make toward help and recovery.

September is Su***de Prevention Month. 💙💛

Throughout the month, the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board and our community partners will be sharing resources, creating opportunities to connect, and starting conversations about mental health and su***de prevention.

We'll also be highlighting local events, support groups, ways to get help, and simple things each of us can do to look out for the people around us.

Because sometimes making a difference starts with something as simple as a conversation.

Sit down and talk.
Ask someone how they're really doing.

💜 We Do Recover

Mike Sizemore, a Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board employee, joined members of the Project One team Sunday evening for the “We Do Recover” event at The Jericho Wall in recognition of Overdose Awareness Day.

The evening brought people together to share stories of recovery, offer encouragement and support, and remind our community that there is hope for those impacted by addiction.

The Jericho Wall is a unique local art park dedicated to providing comfort, inspiration, hope, education and a place centered on recovery for individuals and families affected by addiction.

Thank you to Project One and everyone who helped make this meaningful evening possible and to all those who continue to support recovery in our community.

Recovery is possible. Hope is powerful. We do recover. 💜

Join our community on August 31st at 6:00 PM at Lexington Community Park as we come together to remember those whose lives have been lost to overdose, support the people and families impacted, and bring hope to those on the road to recovery.

We will also be collecting toiletry items to help support those in need. Bring a donation, bring a friend, and join us for an evening of remembrance, awareness, and hope.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we were honored to have Cary Vogt from the Richland County Mental Health And Recovery Services Board at City Council for the proclamation. We appreciate all the work that they and the many mental health providers do in our community.

We are reminded that struggling silently is far more common than most people realize. In Ohio, nearly 1 in 5 adults experiences a mental illness each year, and su***de remains one of the leading causes of death for young people. Here in Richland County, local organizations work every day to ensure people know they are not alone and that help is available.

Mental health matters just as much as physical health. This month, let’s check in on one another, speak openly about mental wellness, and remind people that asking for help is a sign of strength — not weakness.
