Mansfield Police Arrest Alleged Dealer for Felony Firearm Possession and Co***ne Trafficking

MANSFIELD — Following a lengthy and through multi-agency local and federal investigation, Mansfield Police arrested a local resident on Tuesday after executing a search warrant and seizing fi****ms, cash and co***ne.

The investigation was led by the Mansfield Police Detective Division, with the assistance of Detectives from the Raynham and Seekonk police departments, and agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) office in Worcester.

On Tuesday, May 26, after securing a warrant, Mansfield Police Detectives and members of the Northern Bristol County Drug Task Force searched a suspect, his apartment and rental car on Oakland Street. During the search, Detectives seized 63 grams of a white powdery substance believed to be co***ne, $48,961 in cash, two handguns and three high-capacity magazines.

JONATHAN MEJIA, 26, of MANSFIELD, was arrested and charged with the following:

- Co***ne Trafficking

- Possession of a Firearm While Committing (or Attempting to Commit) a Felony (Co***ne Trafficking)

- Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm (3 Counts)

- Improper Storage of a Large-Capacity Firearm

"This arrest was due to an incredibly thorough and professionally conducted investigation led by Mansfield Police Detectives Anthony Lattanzio, Patrick Pennie, Chris Walsh and Matthew Souza," said Mansfield Police Chief Ronald Sellon. "Investigations like this wouldn't be possible without cooperation from our partners in law enforcement, including Raynham Police Detectives Patrick Leahy and Jared Turkington, Seekonk Police Sgt. Adam Laprade, and agents from the DEA's Worcester office. This case took a lot of guns and drugs off our streets, and all of our communities are safer because this investigation was so successful."

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Due to the possibility of inclement weather, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our parade, but the service will go on at the Elks Hall at 11:00 am

While we are taking a moment to pause, reflect, and honor the memory of our fallen heroes on this Memorial Day Weekend, we want to ensure that our Town commemorates this holiday respectfully despite damp conditions. Therefore, we have made the decision to move the ceremony to the Elks Hall.

We thank the Elks for their generous support of today's events.

The Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the Elk’s Hall (140 N. Main Street) at 11:00 am, followed by a complimentary lunch. All are welcome to join us for a day full of honor, remembrance, and community.

Mansfield Police Officer Ken Wright and Therapy Dog Bentley Earn National School Safety Honor

MANSFIELD — Mansfield Police Detective Ken Wright and his trained therapy dog, Bentley, have been named recipients of the 2026 Safety Support Companion Award by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).

The national recognition honors an SRO and animal companion who make a meaningful difference in the school community they serve.

Wright, a Mansfield Police officer for 26 years, had served as an SRO for the past 11 years. He and Bentley, a yellow Labrador retriever, have been partners for seven of those years, becoming a familiar and trusted presence across Mansfield Public Schools.

The NASRO award recognizes an SRO and companion who, through their roles as public safety educator, mentor/informal counselor and law enforcement officer, "make a significant positive and impactful contribution to schools" through their daily work supporting students and staff.

For Wright and Bentley, that description is a daily reality.

"This award is a tremendous honor for Detective Wright and Bentley, and it speaks to the meaningful relationships they have built within our schools and community over many years," said Chief Ronald Sellon. "Bentley has become much more than just a comfort dog. Together, he and Ken provide support and connection for students and staff every single day."

"Detective Wright's commitment to supporting our students along with Bentley's calm, friendly presence has helped students through stressful situations, provided comfort during difficult moments and strengthened positive relationships between students and law enforcement," said Mansfield Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michelle McKeon. "We are extremely grateful for Detective Wright, Bentley and our partnership with the Mansfield Police Department."

Wright and Bentley will formally receive the award during NASRO's opening ceremonies at the 2026 National School Safety Conference in Reno, Nevada, on June 29.
