Alright folks, time for a little weekend fire risk update!

Elevated fire risk for DeSoto parish and surrounding areas today. ❗️Strong Northeast to east winds 💨🍃 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Relative humidity 20-30%. These conditions will support the spread of fires. 🔥

In other words, today is not the day to test your “I can totally control this little fire” skills. 🙅🏽‍♂️ Even your grill might be feeling a bit too adventurous.

Desoto Parish is not currently under a burn ban, however, outdoor burning and activities that involve open sparks or flames are definitely discouraged. 🚫

Translation: just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Your future self (and your neighbors) will thank you. 🏡 😊

Please report all fire emergencies to 911. ☎️

Stay safe, stay smart, and maybe give anything involving flames a rain check today. Enjoy your weekend!

Happy Sunday! Today brings another day of elevated fire danger. 🚒🧯

We’re not officially under a burn ban… but Mother Nature is definitely side-eyeing anyone holding a match right now. 😅 Technically allowed, but HIGHLY discouraged! 👀🔥🚫

Don’t forget that the Desoto Parish Sheriff's Office app has a place especially for burn ban updates! 📱

Please report all fire emergencies to 911! ☎️

Oh hear ye, oh hear ye, in DeSoto so fair,
Where pine needles whisper and sparks fill the air!
A message for neighbors, both near and afar—
About flames that might leap from a teeny small char. 🔥

Now folks have been asking (oh yes, quite a lot!),
“Can I burn just a little? Just one tiny spot?”
Well technically speaking, no ban’s in decree…
But that doesn’t mean, friends, it’s a good time for thee! 😉

For grass can go crackle! And winds can go WHOOSH!
And suddenly embers go dancing ker-PLOOSH!
They skip and they hop, they race and they run,
Turning “just one small burn” into “OH NO, NOT FUN!” 😳

Think kindly, dear neighbor, think kindly today,
Of firefighters brave 👩‍🚒🧑‍🚒 who might rush your way.
With hoses and helmets and boots in the heat,
All ‘cause someone thought burning would be kinda neat.

So hold off your matches, your piles, and your plans,
Keep water not fire in buckets and cans.
Let’s wait for conditions less crispy and dry,🌦️
When flames won’t go zooming and reaching the sky!

This message is public—so share it around,
From porch to the pasture, please pass it around.
From our fire stations to wherever you roam—
Let’s keep DeSoto safe, every field, every home! 🔥

DeSoto Fire District 8 wishes you a safe and happy weekend. Please check for updates on the fire risk in our area before you decide to burn! 🙂
