In an emergency, you do not want to rely on your phone to figure it out or divide your attention while you are speaking with a dispatcher. Having a go-bag in your vehicle is a practical way to be ready for the unexpected. Many officers keep go-bags for different situations, stocked with items like tourniquets, first aid kits, flashlights, and even extra socks for rainy days.

This is something anyone can do and tailor to their own needs. Think about adding necessary medications, a phone charger, or other small items you may need in an emergency.

But remember: buying the gear is only half the battle. You have to know how to use it.

An unopened emergency kit won't help you in a crisis if you don't know how to apply a tourniquet or operate the equipment under stress. When you pack your bag, take the time to read the instructions, practice using the gear, and ensure everyone in your family knows how it works.

Taking a few minutes to set this up now can make a real difference when seconds matter.

A huge thank you to the Fort Worth Police Department Air Support Unit Pilot Michael Hume (FAA DPE) and Tactical Flight Officer Alexander Marti who flew out to our Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS) meeting last night here at the Mansfield Police Department. They showed us FWPD's Bell 505 Jet Ranger X packed with thermal imaging and powerful searchlight for 24/7 ops. Our Community Resource Division made some new four-legged friends during a visit to Mansfield Animal Control yesterday! 🐾

Officer Guardiola, Officer Lee, and Chloe Fox, MSW, spent time cuddling kittens Poppy, Theo, and Winnie before meeting two soon-to-be-available pups: Remi, a 12-week-old Schnauzer, and Teddy, a 1-to-2-year-old Yorkie.

Remi and Teddy are expected to be available for adoption beginning Thursday, September 3. If your family has room for a new companion, stop by Mansfield Animal Control and meet the animals waiting to find their perfect match! ❤️
