Liberty Park Fishing Derby was a success! Dozens and dozens of hungry bluegill caught today. Only 1 winner on the accuracy challenge!

It’s Derby Day, Mansfield!

We’re kicking off this year’s Fishing Derby at Liberty Park with something special — freshly stocked, catchable‑size bluegill added to the pond this Thursday by the incredible team from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

- Extras: Limited fishing poles available to borrow; prizes for top anglers!

Join Kate Shannon, Ohio State’s 2025–2026 Artist Laureate and Associate Professor of Art, for a hands-on workshop exploring this simple, non-toxic 19th-century photographic process that uses UV light and water to create stunning blue prints.

What was it like to be a Civil War Surgeon?

“At early dawn, I was up at Surgeon's call and before breakfast prescribed for 86 patients at the door of my tent.

After meal I visited the hospitals and a barn where our sick are lying, and dealt medicines and write prescriptions for one hundred more; in all visited and prescribed for, one hundred and eighty-six men. I had no dinner.

At 4 o'clock this labor was completed and a cold bite was eaten. After this, in the rain, I started for Sharpsburg, four miles distant, for medical supplies.” - Dr. Daniel Holt.

Confederate States Army Surgeon, Major Doug Gill will be at Civil War Living History Days at South Park on June 14th and 15th, 2026 from 10am to 4pm each day. Stop by to see him.

Tick season is here! When visiting parks, trails, and natural areas, a few simple precautions can help keep you safe while enjoying the outdoors.

Tick Tips & Tricks:
• Stay on marked trails when possible
• Avoid walking through tall grass and brush
• Wear light-colored clothing to spot ticks more easily
• Tuck pants into socks when hiking in wooded areas
• Use an EPA-approved insect repellent
• Check yourself, children, and pets for ticks after being outdoors
• Pay close attention to ears, scalp, armpits, behind knees, and ankles
• Shower soon after coming indoors to help remove unattached ticks
• Remove ticks promptly with fine-tipped tweezers or a tick remover
