A Letter from Vivian Webster – Mansfield School Committee Member

To the Mansfield community —

After three years of dedicated service, I’ve made the decision not to seek re-election to the School Committee. I have about two meetings left before I step down, and before I do, I want to speak directly and honestly—not just as an elected official, but as a mother, a community member, and a woman who gave this role everything she had. ✊🏽

Serving on this committee has been an honor. It’s been heavy, it’s been healing, and above all—it’s been real. From day one, I brought all of myself to this work. And long before I was elected, I was already doing the work—mentoring youth 👩🏽‍🏫, supporting families 🏡, building programs, and advocating not just in Mansfield, but in surrounding towns too. I didn’t need a title to make an impact. I ran because I knew our community needed representation, boldness, and someone who wasn’t afraid to ask questions and demand better.
I am that person.

I lost my first race. I won the second—not because of politics or popularity, but because the people saw who I was: someone unafraid to challenge the status quo and deeply committed to doing what’s right. ✅

And while I’m proud of what I’ve done—let me be clear: this role has not been easy. ⚠️

In June 2022, just one month into my term, I was arrested in a deeply personal family matter rooted in a long, painful history of domestic violence. I spent the next year and a half in court ⚖️—fighting for my name, my freedom, and my dignity. I hired an attorney, spent more than I could afford, and showed up in courtrooms month after month until the truth prevailed. The case was dismissed. But the toll it took was very real.

While I was still trying to navigate that legal process quietly and with grace, a blogger—someone who calls himself a journalist but acts like a troll with Wi-Fi 🐍—published a reckless article filled with twisted facts, personal records, and harmful false narratives. It wasn’t journalism. It was a targeted hit piece—part of a pattern he’s known for, especially when it comes to attacking public officials of color who are actually doing something with themselves. ✊🏽

The article did what it was meant to do—it stirred up the worst in people. It got reposted in local Mansfield Facebook groups & other social media platforms by folks who never asked questions, never reached out for truth, and didn’t care about the damage they caused. Some of you had a lot to say.
People I’ve never met were online saying the most vile things about my children and I… dragged my name, disrespected my children, and acted like it was open season on my life.

To those people—I hope you sit with the ugliness of what you did.
You weren’t “holding anyone accountable.” You were chasing drama 🎭.
You shared lies. You spread gossip. You piled on a woman who was already carrying more than you ever could.
And while you were online dragging me—I was still doing the real work.
And I still am. Period. ✨

What you didn’t know is that during all of this, my oldest daughter—was in the middle of a mental health crisis. The online & in person cruelty and harassment towards me pushed her to a breaking point. I had to hospitalize her for an entire month 🏥. She missed school. She missed her life.
And I held all of that—with love, with prayer, with strength—and I still showed up to serve you.

There were nights I cried 😔.
Mornings I had to talk myself into getting dressed and showing up.
And moments I truly thought of walking away.

But I didn’t. Because students needed me.
Because parents needed someone who got it.
Because I made a commitment—and I kept it. 💪🏽

To the two committee members who had my back through it all—thank you. Your support meant everything.
To our Superintendent—thank you for your leadership, compassion, and realness. Wishing you the very best in your next chapter! ✨
To the staff, families and students who reached out privately and trusted me—you are the reason I stayed. 💖
To the elected officials, higher-level leaders, and advocates from Mansfield & other towns who poured into me—your belief in me reminded me who I was. 💫

Now let’s be clear: just because I’m not running again doesn’t mean I’m disappearing.
From this moment until Election Day (May 13) 🗳️, I’m still at your service.
If you have questions about committee decisions, navigating the school system, or need guidance around special education—reach out. I’m still here.
Most of you know that outside of this role, I’ve worked in education for over a decade 📚, and I serve as a clinician at the secondary level in a larger district. I’ve dedicated my life to youth, and that part is never changing.

I leave this seat with my head high, my spirit whole, and my integrity intact. 👑
I stood tall through adversity. I showed up when it would’ve been easier to stay quiet.
I made change, even when it wasn’t always visible. And I did it with heart.

To the next person who takes this seat:
Be bold.
Be smart.
Be for the people.
Don’t let this position water you down. 💯
Speak truth—even when it shakes the room.

To the Mansfield community:
I will always show up—just in new rooms, with new energy, and even stronger boundaries.

I’m still here.
I’m still standing.
And I still got the juice. Period.

With love, resilience, and truth💕

As most of you know, we’re on a quest to find our next superintendent 🏫🔍, and we’ve been conducting a series of focus groups 🗣️. We want to hear from everyone in our community, whether you’re a parent, resident, business owner, or someone who works in the town 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🏘️💼. Your input matters!

For MHS students 🎓, we have a special session tomorrow, Tuesday, December 17, during Hornet Block from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the library 📚. Students will also have another opportunity to join via Zoom 🖥️ tomorrow evening from 6:30 PM to 7:15 PM. Zoom links have been provided to students via their school emails 🔗

For the community at large 🌍, we’re holding an in-person session at Mansfield Town Hall 🏛️ from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM in Room 2AB (second floor) 📍. I was incredibly honored to speak at the Abolition Day event, where I stood with some of the most dedicated and inspiring leaders and advocates. The energy in the room was a powerful reminder of our shared mission to fight for justice and equality for all. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and together we continue the work to create a better tomorrow. 💪🏾✊🏾
