Enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, camping, hunting, disc golfing, scenic views, and year-round recreation in north-central Ohio. Clearfork Reservoir is a man-made waterbody in north-central Ohio, situated primarily in Richland County with portions extending into Morrow County, about seven miles southwest of Mansfield near State Route 97. It was constructed in 1949 as a major source of drinking water
for the City of Mansfield, and remains integral to the region’s water supply infrastructure. Covering approximately 997 acres with about 14 miles of shoreline and a storage capacity of roughly 4.4 billion gallons, the reservoir rests at an elevation of around 1,202 feet above sea level. The majority of the lake exceeds 10 feet in depth, with some areas reaching depths near 40 feet. Today, Clearfork Reservoir serves multiple recreational and ecological roles. The surrounding Clearfork Reservoir Park provides extensive outdoor opportunities including boating, fishing, hiking, camping, picnicking, and hunting across more than 1,000 acres of land. Public amenities include picnic areas, trails, and a marina offering boat rentals, bait, and equipment. The reservoir is also recognized for its sport fishery, with species such as bass, catfish, crappie, and muskellunge being popular targets for anglers; muskies have been periodically stocked by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to enhance fishing opportunities. In addition to recreation and water supply, the area continues to be a site for environmental and wildlife interest, attracting birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Ongoing maintenance and study efforts by local authorities aim to ensure the reservoir’s long-term health and utility for both human and natural communities.
