Army Corps of Engineers. The dam is situated on the confluence of the Natchaug, Fenton and Mt. Hope Rivers, in Mansfield, Connecticut. The construction of Mansfield Hollow Dam was completed in 1952 at a cost of $6.5 million dollars. Since being put into operation, this dam has prevented an estimated $101.63 million in flood related property damages. Army Corps of Engineers regulates the flow of th

e Natchaug River, which exits the dam, by raising or lowering five, 5.5 feet by 7 feet hydraulically operated sluice gates from within the dam. The highest water level recorded at Mansfield Hollow Dam occurred in June of 1982 with a pool height of 52.6 ft where the normal pool height at that time of the year is kept at 18 ft. The pool at that time was approximately 66% full with another 9.4 feet to go before reaching spillway crest at 62 ft. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, working in cooperation with agencies from the states of CT, MA, NH and VT, provides quality outdoor recreational opportunities at 31 Corps-operated flood risk management reservoirs within these states. The lands and waters of these civil works water resource projects are managed to conserve the natural resources as well as for the primary authorized purpose of flood risk management. The Corps of Engineers was founded on June 16, 1775
