Our City offices will be closed this Friday, June 19 for Juneteenth.

From the National Museum of African American History and Culture, they describe Juneteenth as:

"Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later.

Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas".

Online Services will be available 24/7 online at mankatomn.gov.

Any questions regarding the closure can be directed to 311 or 507-387-8600

The community is invited to attend a come-and-go open house on June 25 to discuss the 2027 Long Street Project and the Hilltop Capital Improvements Plan.

The open house will be held in the Mankato Room (Council Chambers) of the Intergovernmental Center from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 25.

Address: 10 Civic Center Plaza, Mankato, MN

Roadway and utility improvements are planned for Long Street between Main Street and Madison Avenue in 2027. Three alternatives have been developed, each designed to enhance safety, manage speeds, improve pedestrian features, and discourage cut-through traffic. These were key needs identified by the community. Attendees will be able to review each alternative and share their feedback to help shape the final design concept.

The Hilltop Area Capital Improvements Plan prioritizes infrastructure improvements recommended by the Hilltop Planning Area Study. Open house attendees will be able to learn about improvements planned in the Hilltop community within the next 10 years.
