CPFD provides fire protection services within the boundaries of two subdivisions which comprise Crystal Park, a 2,200 acre private community set in the mountains above Manitou Springs, Colorado. Crystal Park has 360+ individual memberships/home sites, of which over 220 are developed sites. In coordination with El Paso County, the Department may also be called upon to respond to other private areas in the vicinity of the service area through mutual aid.

Starting this year, Colorado is the first Western state after California with a statewide, mandatory building code for structures in the wildland-urban interface, where communities encroach on wilderness with wildfire potential.

Certified 9 Crystal Park firefighters today. One, ‘Wally’ Walczak, qualified for his RED CARD certification! We now have four Red Card holders in CPFD!!

UPDATE: RED FLAG WARNING extending into Thursday, 19 Feb 26 - with a High Wind Warning added (dust and snow whiteouts possible).

Critical Fire Weather conditions expected Mon through Wed 16-18 Feb 2026, with the strongest widespread winds forecast for Tue.

High Wind watch for much of the area Tue with possible gusts up to 75-80 mph for the mts and up to 65-70 mph for the lower elevations.

Wind-driven snow returns to the mts, and especially the Continental Divide, late Mon night through Wed night.
