🇺🇸 Manito Remembers 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years later, September 11th still carries a weight that is hard to put into words.

Many of us remember exactly where we were when we heard the news. We remember the disbelief, the fear, the heartbreak — but we also remember what happened afterward.

Neighbors checked on neighbors. Strangers helped strangers. Flags seemed to fly from every porch. Communities came together, and for a time, the things that divided us felt much smaller than the things that connected us.

That is a feeling worth remembering.

Here in Manito, we are fortunate to know what it means to live in a community where people still show up for one another. Where a helping hand, a kind word, or simply being there can make a difference.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families who were forever changed, and the unity our nation found in the days that followed.

May we never forget that day — and may we never forget how powerful it can be when we choose to stand together.

On Friday, first grade had a visit from Mayor Sondag! Last week, students learned about their town and the people who help serve the community. Mayor Sondag shared information about his responsibilities and the work he does for the Village of Manito.

It was a great real-world connection to what students have been learning in class and a fun way to kick off Popcorn Festival weekend. Thank you, Mayor Sondag, for taking the time to visit with our students!

The Village of Manito and the Manito Revive & Thrive Committee would like to give a very special thank you to Nostaw for making all of the banner holders you see lining Adams Street!

A huge thank you to Gary, Michelle, Josh, and Alyssa for sharing your time, talent, and hard work with our community. The banner holders are one of those details that help make our town look a little more welcoming, polished, and full of Manito pride. ❤️

We’re incredibly grateful for all you do—not only for the Village of Manito, but for our community and beyond.

📣 CANDIDATE PACKETS AVAILABLE TODAY!

If you are interested in serving your community, candidate information for both the Village of Manito and the Forman Park District is now available at Manito Village Hall.

🗳️ VILLAGE OF MANITO

Candidate packets for the upcoming Village of Manito election may be picked up beginning today at Village Hall.

Positions up for election:

* Three (3) Village Trustee – 4-Year Terms
* One (1) Village Trustee – 2-Year Term

A Village Trustee is an elected official who represents residents, helps make decisions for the Village, approves ordinances and policies, oversees Village finances and services, and works with other elected officials to plan for the community’s future.

📅 Petitions must be filed between November 16 and November 23, 2026.

Each candidate must file:

* Petitions containing the proper number of valid signatures
* Statement of Candidacy
* Loyalty Oath (optional)
* Receipt from the Statement of Economic Interests

Candidates are responsible for making sure all paperwork is complete and that the required number of valid signatures has been obtained. Candidates are allay responsible for verifying eligibility for the position they intend on running for.

🌳 FORMAN PARK DISTRICT

The next Forman Park District election will be held in Spring 2027.

Forman Park District Board members meet monthly and help set goals, establish policies, and determine services that meet the present and future needs of the citizens of the district.

Positions that will be up for election:

* One (1) 6-Year Position
* One (1) 4-Year Position
* One (1) 2-Year Position

If you are interested in running for a position on the Forman Park District Board, you should:

📍 Pick up a Statement of Economic Interests and candidate petition at Manito Village Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM.

✍️ Gather 25 signatures from eligible voters of the Forman Park District. Petition circulation may begin August 25, 2026.

📅 File your required documents between November 16 and November 23, 2026, at Manito Village Hall.

Candidates will need to file:

* Nominating Petition
* Statement of Candidacy
* Receipt for the filed Statement of Economic Interests

If you are considering serving on either the Village of Manito Board of Trustees or the Forman Park District Board, candidate paperwork is now available at Manito Village Hall.
