Schoolcraft County Transit will be closed on the morning of Tuesday, March 17th. We have designated dialysis patients as our top priority and are coordinating with Emergency Management to ensure their safe transportation. We appreciate the assistance received from all parties involved in this effort.

We will attempt a delayed start following the completion of these rides, potentially around noon. Please note that we cannot operate on unplowed roads, parking lots, or driveways.

In response to the severe winter weather, Schoolcraft County Transit Authority has made the prudent decision to close on Monday, March 16th, ensuring the safety and security of our community. Many roads are impassable in most areas, visibility is very limited, and deep snow is beyond our vehicles' capability, so we are taking a proactive stance to protect our passengers and staff. With many places closed, we are joining forces to prioritize safety and well-being. We will be ready to serve you when conditions improve.

Spring road weight restrictions, or "frost laws," in Michigan's Upper Peninsula start on March 9, 2026, for MDOT routes, while Schoolcraft county road restrictions begin as early as March 5th.

As frost melts, moisture gets trapped beneath the surface, making the roadbed spongy. Heavy trucks and equipment on this unsupported pavement can cause cracks and failures.

These measures protect thawing roads by reducing axle loads by 25-35% on non-all-season routes, typically lasting until late April or May.
