Lakeshore Children's Advocacy Center

Lakeshore Children's Advocacy Center The Lakeshore Children's Advocacy Center aspires to be a leader in efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect.

We provide a coordinated response to abuse that puts the child first. Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) are community based, child-focused and child-friendly facilities where representatives from many disciplines meet to discuss and make decisions about investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse cases. CAC’s provide child-friendly, legally sound forensic interviewing services. CAC’s

also help make sure your child gets a necessary medical check-up. CAC’s can also help you find the best counselors for you and your child.

The teen and tween years are not easy. One minute they want independence. The next minute, they need you more than ever.

Talking about mental health can feel impossible when they barely want to tell you where they are going. That is why the small, everyday moments matter.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, our message is simple:

💚Listen. 💚Ask questions. 💚Stay calm. 💚Get to know who they are today.

Last month, Lakeshore CAC staff participated in some important professional development, led by Sarah Garthe of Centra Wellness Network, who is also an LCAC board member.

The training was titled “Reducing Secondary Traumatic Stress for Frontline Staff.” It utilizes the CE-CERT framework created by Dr. Brian Miller that includes five skills to help first responders recognize how their work is impacting them and what to do about it.

Children’s Advocacy Center professionals are on the frontlines of trauma — child advocates, forensic interviewers, law enforcement, therapists, and prosecutors. Our staff and MultiDisciplinary Team partners witness humanity at its most vulnerable.

Thank you to Sarah and Centra Wellness Network for this important training, which helps support the wellness of our team. A key part is acknowledging the real struggles that can result from exposure to secondary trauma. If we are going to make progress in the area of mental wellness, this will require real conversations. Not just awareness posters or check-ins, but honest reflection on what so many carry silently.

Please join us in welcoming Rebekah to the Lakeshore CAC Forensic Interview team as part-time contractual interviewer!

The goal of a forensic interview is to gather pertinent information from children in a neutral, non-leading, developmentally sensitive, and legally defensible manner. Lakeshore CAC’s Forensic Interviewers are trained to talk with children in a safe, neutral, and developmentally appropriate way—providing space for their voices to be heard while collecting critical information to help protect them.

We are excited to grow our team of compassionate, skilled professionals who help children feel heard and supported during incredibly difficult times.
