🇺🇸 Remembering Together | September 11

Today, members of the Manhattan Fire Protection District and Manhattan Police Department came together for a cookout in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

It was a simple afternoon of food, conversation, and camaraderie — but also an opportunity to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and unity shown by first responders and communities across our nation on that day and in the days that followed.

We are grateful for the strong relationship between our local fire and police departments and for the opportunity to serve this community side by side.

Today and always, we remember the 2,977 lives lost, including the 343 FDNY firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

We extend our deepest gratitude to the first responders, service members, and heroes who demonstrated incredible bravery and resilience. May we always carry forward their spirit of unity and strength.

Manhattan, our community has suffered the tragic loss of another child. We ask that everyone keep the Reed family in your thoughts and prayers during this extremely difficult time.

His life was taken far too soon, and our family is experiencing unimaginable loss. We are asking for support to help cover the funeral and memorial expenses as we lay him

🚨We have a slight problem Manhattan, and can use your assistance. Our brand new (still under construction) water treatment facility on Andrea was broken into yesterday. The problem is we don’t yet know the identity of the three juveniles that forcefully broke into the building and we can’t legally share their pictures here (as much as we’d like to). So if your son left with a screwdriver and returned home without it, but came back with a few extra tools. Please give Ofc. Bagdon a call, 815-478-4408. We appreciate your assistance.

It's gonna be windy!! A tornado warning was just issued for northwestern Will County and surrounding areas. Start seeking shelter while you have time. These tornadoes will most likely be rain wrapped so please DO NOT go outside to look at it. By time you see it, it will be too late.

🚓Community Night Cancellation🚒

After carefully monitoring today’s forecast and consulting with the National Weather Service and our local Emergency Management Agencies, we have made the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s Manhattan Public Safety Community Night.

Based on the recommendation that all outdoor activities be canceled due to the potential for heavy rainfall and flooding, we believe this is the safest decision for our residents, staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners.

We know many families were looking forward to this event, and we share in your disappointment. Our team, along with dozens of community partners and volunteers, has spent months planning an evening of fun, education, and community engagement.

We are exploring the possibility of rescheduling Community Night at a later date. While no official decision has been made, we will share any updates as soon as they become available.

Thank you to all of our vendors, volunteers, first responders, and community partners for your support and commitment to making this event possible. Most importantly, thank you to our residents for your understanding.

Please stay weather aware, stay safe, and we’ll keep you updated if a new date is announced.

Our organizations are closely monitoring today's weather forecast and are in communication with our public safety partners. The safety of our visitors, volunteers, and exhibitors is our top priority.

We will make a final decision regarding tonight's event by 12:00 PM and share an update on our page as soon as we have made a decision.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We're hopeful that Mother Nature cooperates, though the forecast says otherwise. We have an incredible evening planned for our community! 🚒🚓🚑
