We had the opportunity to volunteer and table at Everybody Counts! It was a great morning of engaging with community members and community organizations who make a real impact on the lives of those in Manhattan.

In light of the recent Politico article detailing Jenny Racicot’s horrific experiences with Maine Democratic candidate Graham Platner, the Flint Hills Chapter of the DSA would like to make a few things very clear:

The problems with Platner as a candidate existed long before this Politico article dropped. From his Totenkopf tattoo to his time as a Blackwater mercenary, there were too many red flags. Because we know the power of an endorsement, we take our responsibility to vet candidates very seriously. As a result, the National Democratic Socialists of America never endorsed his candidacy and neither did we.

With that out of the way, it is with heavy hearts that we feel we must address the extremely credible allegations made by Jenny Racicot.

In the days since her allegations were made public, we have seen numerous self described leftists, progressives, and Democrats disavow the victim and defend her ra**st. We have seen claims that her disclosure was a deep state conspiracy, that Jenny Racicot lied, that her decision to go public was a calculated political hit job.

This is unacceptable.

In a movement which professes to work for the good of all disenfranchised people there can be no room for sexual violence. Anyone who excuses said violence is an enemy and poisons the well from which we all must drink.

We here at the FHDSA do not now nor have we ever believed that the success of our movement rests on the shoulders of any one man. Our ideals, our principals, and the Universal justice which girds them existed long before us and they will be here long after we are gone.

In an America where one in five women are r***d and 98% of ra**sts never see a day in jail, victims should never be shamed for the time and manner in which they choose to disclose.

In attempting to silence Jenny Racicot, in casting doubt on her experiences, you create a permission structure for further violence and exploitation.

In betraying one victim, you betray us all.

Platner has no place among us and neither do those who would stand by him.

Firmly, unequivocally, the Flint Hills DSA believes Jenny Racicot.
