☕ Here's the tea…our video was funny and all, but there is much work to be done when it comes to inclusivity on our campus. Let us explain:
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
According to the K-State Campus Climate Survey released during the 2019-2020 school year, 20% of students said they do not feel welcome or safe at K-State, and 56% said they are disappointed with the lack of need-based scholarships offered. A quarter of students said they have experienced microaggressions here, and our presidential candidate, Vedant (an international student AND a student of color), has faced constant attacks from racists, extremists, and bigots on his personal social media. Our VP candidate, Maggie (a native Kansan who grew up in the sunflower state's beautiful farmland) has faced multiple attacks from strangers for standing up for diversity at K-State.
While meant to be funny, our Mean Tweets video shows the harsh reality of what students experience on our campus. Unfortunately, when students have stood up for what is right and stood firmly behind the idea of diversity, they have been met with backlash and the wrath of bigots both online and on campus.
This is why Vedant and Maggie are running. We have more work to do.
Our campaign platforms have been strategically created in a way to be inclusive of all students--whether it be providing financial assistance, ensuring a safe and secure campus environment, or ensuring campus accessibility to support and sustain the education of our Wildcats, it is work done with the interest of ALL students in mind. Together, we can create an atmosphere at K-State that fosters inclusive growth and develops a space of belonging for ALL students. Vote on February 23rd & 24th 🗳️
