Congratulations, Meadows Elementary School 5th-now-6th graders! Each student received one of these congrats letters from retired librarian Chris Gruss Primm and me with a special treat: While on vacation, Mr. and Mrs. Primm spent time together researching the name of the very first book each student checked out of the Meadows library and included it in the letter. We hope you enjoyed rediscovering your first library book and the photos of Mrs. Primm and I in elementary school. Did you know Mrs. Primm and I grew up in neighboring states? She in Pennsylvania and me in Ohio. Turns out our moms both cut our bangs and dressed us in Peter Pan collars. 🥰

YA book launch! Who's joining me Monday at pages: a bookstore?! Very excited for the release of "Heiress Takes All," recommended for fans of the "Inheritance Games" and "Ocean's 11" (which I am!). Fun fact: The book is by husband-wife writing duo Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka. Austin is the son of Barbara Siegemund-Broka who is a former MBUSD librarian and who Meadows Elementary School third graders know as she created and led our classes through Super Literacy Quiz Bowl. See you there!

{pages} is thrilled to welcome back the husband and wife writing duo, Emily Wibberley  and Austin Siegemund-Broka as they celebrate their brand new YA Novel, Heiress Takes All.  Join us for the in person launch on pub date eve when Austin & Emily will talk about their process, how they collaborate...

This week is the final week that students may **check books out** of the Meadows library.*

Please plan to turn in your Meadows library books by Monday, June 3 for our end-of-the-year inventory.

Families will receive a note at the end of May letting you know which books your students have checked out.

If your book is lost or damaged, please contact Mrs. Reiter to discuss how to pay for or replace your book. Students may have their final report card withheld until their library account is clear.

Thank you!

*Some classes/students may have arrangements to have books checked out past June 3.

Our AAPI celebration continues in the library with our TK through first grade classes reading “Sunday Funday in Koreatown.” The picture book was inspired by childhood memories of Aram Kim, a Korean-American author, illustrator and designer. Our Meadows Elementary School students have been excited to share if they’ve been to Koreatown or if they’ve eaten kimbap, bingsu or tteokbooki, some of the foods showcased in the book. They’re also able to see how far Manhattan Beach is from Korea on our globe and can find Korea on our beautiful AAPI map created with the help of Betty Wan, one of our Meadows parents. Be sure to check out Aram Kim’s website, where you can find her other books and watch a video of her reading “Sunday Funday in Koreatown.” — Aramkim.com

Happy Mother’s Day! Here’s the non-fiction book I chose for my kids to read to me today! 🤣🥰 Found this “Queens of the Animal Universe” series in the new book section at the Manhattan Beach library and learned many new facts. Did you know that lemurs are one of the most endangered land mammals? Our students LOVE learning about animals so we’ll be adding books from this and other animal series to our library this year. Have a great day, Meadows Queens! 👑👸🏽🫅🏿👸🏻🫅🏼💙💛

Our Meadows Elementary School students who are celebrating Passover today shared that they are looking forward to games, spending time with family and eating traditional foods like matzah and soups. Here’s a look at some of the Passover books we’ve had on display in our library this month. All are available to be checked out! What’s your favorite Passover book or tradition?

Baby-Sitters Club fans — save the date for MAY 8 so you can meet comic artist Katy Farina at pages: a bookstore! She'll introduce her NEW Baby-Sitters Little Sister book and talk about how she creates the popular graphic novels. I LOVE author talks and will be there, too, so let's meet up, Meadows Elementary School students!

Did you know that in our library, we have the original Baby-Sitters Little Sister chapter books that debuted in 1988 AND Katy Farina's graphic novel adaptations? I'm excited to hear Katy talk about how she makes her books. The new one is called "Karen's Sleepover." Click on the link below for details. Hope to see you there!

We are thrilled to have Katy Farina return to celebrate the release of her  8th graphic novel adaptation of the Baby-Sitters Little Sister Series!  Come learn more about her process and creating a graphic novel! Wear your favorite pajamas!
