Over our 50-year history, the Junior Lifeguard Program has grown from 150 to 4000 boys and girls. Classes take place along the 72-mile LA County coastline, from Cabrillo Beach to Zuma, and on Catalina Island. By p

articipating in this program, your children join a proud tradition that is nationally recognized for its high-quality instruction, outstanding athletes, and innovative training. For an Emergency dial 9-1-1. *Account not monitored 24/7* Account maintained by the LA County Fire Dept. Lifeguard Division, Junior Lifeguard Program. Our program offers instruction in water safety, swimming, body surfing, paddling, surfing, physical conditioning, competition skills, first aid, CPR and rescue techniques. The participants are grouped by age: the 9-11 year olds are in the C Group, the 12-13 year olds make up the B Group, and the 14-17 year olds are the A Group. The depth and format of instruction is dependent upon the age and skill level of each group. Junior Lifeguards who successfully complete the program will receive both a Certificate of Completion and an official LA County Junior Lifeguard Patch.

Forecast for the weekend: More summer. ☀️🌊

With air temperatures in the mid-70s, water temperatures still above 70 degrees, and a new round of swell arriving, it’s shaping up to be another great weekend at the beach.

Waves are expected to reach the chest-high range, with some larger sets possible at top spots. That also means plenty of water moving around and increased rip current activity throughout the county.

JGs, you know the drill. Pay attention to the conditions, know your limits, and always swim and surf in front of an open lifeguard tower. And don’t forget to share what you learned this summer with your friends and family.

The JG season may be over, but summer definitely isn’t. Get out there, have fun, and stay safe!

Find some shade however you can over the next few days! ☀️

NWS Los Angeles has issued an Extreme Heat Warning through 8 PM Friday. It should make for some beautiful beach days, but remember to take care of yourself by drinking plenty of water, sunscreen, and find some shade whenever you can.
