d visitors enjoy their stay. The Police Department is staffed by a dedicated, hard-working team of 65 sworn and 40 civilian full-time employees, and operates under two Bureaus - Administration/Investigations and Field Operations.

Our recent post about e-Motorcycles had a lot of comments asking what we’re doing about drug dealers and DUI’s. Well here’s a recent arrest we’d like to share:

Just before midnight, a patrol officer stopped this pick up truck on Aviation Blvd and 2nd St. The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and was found to be in possession of over 1 pound of various drugs such as Co***ne, Ketamine, and M**A, all packaged for sales.

MBPD Officers are out there day and night looking for all varieties of crime from illegal electric motorcycles to DUI and Drug Sales.

🎉 Big congrats to Officer Felix on completing Field Training!

She kicked off her journey with MBPD in 2024 as a Police Intern, leveled up to Police Recruit, and graduated from the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy. To celebrate, she took on the ultimate challenge, conquering the Sand Dune hill in full uniform! 💪

Next time you spot her out patrolling our beautiful Manhattan Beach community, give her a big wave and say hello!

Sergeant Michael “Mike” Trani is proudly retiring after serving the Manhattan Beach Police Department for 27 years.

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Cal State Long Beach, he began his career at Manhattan Beach PD in May 1999. Throughout his service, Sgt. Trani worked assignments such as Patrol, Beach Patrol, SWAT, Detectives, and as a Field Training Officer. In 2021, he was promoted to Sergeant and named the department’s Field Training Sergeant. That same year, he earned the Distinguished Service Award for saving a life during an attempted murder.

Known for his calm demeanor under pressure, professionalism, and unwavering support for his fellow officers, Sgt. Trani’s charismatic laugh and positive spirit left a lasting impact on everyone he served alongside.

Thank you, Sergeant Trani, for your leadership, dedication, and honorable service. You will be greatly missed. Wishing you health, happiness, and success in retirement.

Last week our MBPD detectives conducted a local warrant sweep helping people take care of their outstanding warrants.

One subject still had an active warrant and received our version of a free Uber…a one-way, door to door ride straight to jail.

Friendly reminder warrants don’t disappear on their own.
