Last night, I was honored to present a proclamation to John “Motch” Motchkavitz in recognition of his retirement from the Great Neck School District.

The Rotary Club of Gold Coast–Lake Success hosted a wonderful retirement celebration to honor Motch’s many years of dedicated service, mentorship, and commitment to students. Throughout his career, he has inspired countless young people both inside and outside the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students.

Motch is especially beloved by members of the Robotics Club, where his passion, guidance, and encouragement helped students develop not only technical skills, but confidence, teamwork, and a love of learning. His influence has extended far beyond academics, and he will be deeply missed by the entire Great Neck school community.

Wishing Motch all the best in his retirement!

I was honored to present my annual Citizens Award to two outstanding seniors from New Hyde Park Memorial High School, Dhara Patel and Jay Shah.

This award recognizes students who are dedicated to making their community a better place, and both recipients exemplify that commitment through their leadership, service, academic excellence, and involvement both inside and outside the classroom. From mentoring others and leading student organizations to advancing important community initiatives, Dhara and Jay have made a lasting impact on those around them.

Congratulations to these exceptional young leaders. I look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the years ahead!

Today we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything for our nation. We are forever grateful to our fallen heroes and to the military families who carry their legacy forward.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day.
