🎡 THE GREER COUNTY FAIR IS UNDERWAY! 🎡

There’s a lot going on this morning at the Greer County Fair at the Mangum Golf Course, and it’s good to see so many people already out enjoying it!
The kids have been showing off some seriously impressive projects, Sweet
Our local first responders have brought out a few of their toys for everyone to check out. And Olson is still driving around with those cats he found this morning.

🚒 Mangum Fire Department
🚓 Local law enforcement
🐕 K-9s
🍧 Snow cones
🏆 Tons of projects, exhibits, and activities
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 And plenty of familiar faces from around Greer County

If you haven’t made it out yet, come see what’s going on and support the kids and families who put so much work into the fair.

And yes… we have confirmed that the fire trucks, police cars, and K-9s are attracting almost as much attention as the snow cone truck.
Almost. 😂

UPDATE: The great cat caper has officially been solved! 🐱🐱

The owner of our two would-be elementary school intruders has been located, and the suspects have been released back into their custody. 😂

Thanks to everyone who shared and helped us get these two home!

😼🚨CAT BURGLARS APPREHENDED AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 🐱🚨

Major Olson encountered these two suspicious characters this morning attempting to sneak into the elementary school with the kids.

After realizing they'd been caught, both suspects surrendered freely and offered absolutely no resistance.

In fact… they may have misunderstood how being taken into custody works, because they immediately climbed all over the arresting officer and refused to leave him alone.

Their motive for attempting to enter the school remains unclear. Investigators haven't ruled out the possibility that they were simply trying to improve their litter-acy.

Neither suspect had identification, a hall pass, or any reasonable explanation for their presence.

They were transported from the scene in a patrol vehicle, where they quickly made themselves comfortable and began acting like department property.

All jokes aside, these two kittens are extremely friendly and obviously comfortable around people. We're hoping they belong to someone and just wandered a little too far from home.

If you recognize them, please contact City Hall or Dispatch.

If nobody claims them, they will need a good home.

And before anyone asks:
No, Major Olson cannot keep them.

Please share and help us identify these two little cat burglars.

🔥 GREER COUNTY BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥

We probably don’t have to explain this one too much.

If you’ve walked outside lately, looked at the grass, driven down a dirt road, or generally existed anywhere in western Oklahoma… you already know it’s dry. Really dry.

A Burn Ban is officially in effect for Greer County.

That means now is not the time for “it’ll probably be fine.” With conditions this dry, one spark can turn into a serious fire very quickly.

Please follow the burn ban, avoid unnecessary open flames, and use extra caution with anything that could create a spark.

We know it feels a little like announcing that August is hot... but we can all think of that one person that would still have to be told. In fact, maybe you should go tell them.

🔥 No burning. No exceptions because “we’ve done it before.” Let’s not give our fire departments any more work than they already have.

Stay safe, Greer County.

❤️ TODAY IS THE DAY — LET’S SHOW UP FOR THE ALLEN FAMILY! ❤️

Today, our community has an opportunity to do what small towns do best: take care of our own.

From 11:00 AM–2:00 PM at The Lighthouse Church Fellowship Hall, there will be a benefit dinner for Zachary Allen and her family as she awaits a kidney transplant.

Come grab a good meal, make a donation, and most importantly, help remind this family that they aren’t walking through this alone.

Every donation goes directly to Zachary and her family to help with medical expenses. Whether you stay for lunch, pick up a plate, give a little, or give a lot, it all matters.

💙 We hope to see a BIG turnout today. Mangum has proven time and time again that when one of our families needs us, we show up.

📍 The Lighthouse Church Fellowship Hall
🕚 TODAY | 11:00 AM–2:00 PM
🍽️ Roast, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, roll & dessert
❤️ Donation only

Come hungry. Come generous. Come support the Allen family.

📚🚔 ANOTHER SCHOOL WEEK IN THE BOOKS…

As everyone heads into the weekend, Mangum PD has just 6…7 quick reminders.

Teachers — we hope you resisted the temptation to send home 6…7 pages of homework for the weekend. You've been through enough.

Students — especially those in grades 6…7 — enjoy your weekend and make good choices. You know who you are.

Parents — if your child says they only have 6…7 minutes of homework, we'd probably verify that.

Drivers — please continue watching your speed around our schools. Just to clear up any possible confusion, the school-zone speed limit is not 67. 😂

And if your teenager comes home bragging about getting a 67 on a test, please understand that Mangum PD cannot mediate the conversation that's about to happen in your house.

We considered adding another reminder here, but this post has already gone on for about 6…7 paragraphs, and somewhere a middle-school student is probably laughing for absolutely no reason.

Have a safe weekend, Mangum.

We'll see everyone Monday morning around 6…7-ish.

Wait.

That doesn't even make sense.

Whatever. 😂

Big shoutout to Chief Taylor for making sure our firefighters had plenty of water while they spent most of the day battling fires in this Oklahoma heat. 🔥🥵

Taking care of the people who take care of our community. 🚓🤝🚒

Great job, Chief!

1st Fire: It was a very hot and eventful day! We were toned out for a grass fire north of Willow that was spreading rapidly and had one home in its path. Due to the efforts put fourth from personnel on scene this fire was contained to roughly 100 acres and the home was not affected! Agencies on scene were Mangum Fire, Willow Fire, Granite, Jester Fire, Hester Fire, Jackson County Task Force, Beckham County Task Force, Greer County Sheriff Department. Greer County Emergency Management, Greer County EMS, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and Greer County District 2 brought a grader to cut fire breaks. We appreciate everyone coming out and helping get things under control. Also big Thank You to Mangum Police Chief Lance Taylor for bringing more water and ice chests to us!

2nd Fire: After getting back to the station and getting all trucks back in service we were toned out for a grass fire South of Willow in a shelter belt. Mangum Fire, Willow Fire, Granite Fire, Greer County EMS, Greer County Emergency Management, Greer County Sheriff Department all responded and the fire was stopped and burned less than an acre.

☀️ OFFICIAL NOTICE: TODAY IS A “NOPE” DAY. ☀️

We checked the temperature outside.
Nope.

Checked the forecast.
Still nope.

Opened the patrol car door and got hit with air that feels like somebody opened an oven.
Absolutely nope.

So, in the interest of public safety, we are asking everyone to observe NOPE DAY:
🔥 Thinking about committing a crime?
Nope. Too hot.
🏃 Thinking about running from the police?
Please nope. We don't want to chase you.
🤬 Thinking about starting an argument with your neighbor?
Nope. Go inside, have some tea.
🚗 Thinking about seeing how fast your car can go down Louis Tittle?
Radiator says Nope.
Police say Nope.
Sanity says Nope Nope....

Today is a great day to stay inside, drink some water, enjoy the A/C, and make decisions that don't require anybody wearing body armor to stand outside.

Mischief can resume when Oklahoma turns the oven off.

Until then… ... ... NOPE. 🥵
