Duhon James’ artwork visualizes Navajo life through a rotating cast of imagery, including stars, corn, water, teeth, textiles, hogans, and the universe. Drawing from observations of the cosmos through the seasons and stories shared by their grandmother and parents, their prints reflect their culture and explore the roles of women, prayer, and time. For them, time is a never-ending cycle. Their work also honors the elders who have brought each generation into the world and continue to teach through their knowledge, stories, and the traditions they pass on.
