At 5:33 this evening, Manchester Fire was alerted by North Shore Regional 911 to a report of a tree that had fallen onto a vehicle on Beach Street in the vicinity of Masconomo Street. Ladder 1 and Paramedic 1 responded to the scene.

The Manchester Fire Department was honored to fly the American flag over the start of this morning’s motorcycle ride in support of the brave men and women of our Armed Services.

It was our privilege to help send off the riders beneath the Stars and Stripes as they came together to recognize and support those who have served—and continue to serve—our country.

Thank you to all of the riders, organizers, and supporters who made today’s event possible. Most importantly, thank you to the men and women of our Armed Forces for your service and sacrifice.

It’s Time for Fun Fact Friday - Did you know that some of the most important equipment we rely on every day isn’t carried on a fire truck or ambulance?

Reliable two-way radio communications are a critical part of everything we do. From the moment a 911 call is received until the last unit clears an incident, our firefighters depend on a complex communications system to stay connected with dispatch, one another, and our mutual aid partners.

Today, North Shore Regional 911 Deputy Director Chris Ryan spent the day evaluating Manchester’s radio sites and communications infrastructure. This included checking equipment and system performance, identifying potential issues, and helping develop a maintenance and enhancement schedule to keep our communications reliable today and into the future.

Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but it is absolutely essential. A radio system has to work when a firefighter calls for additional resources, when an incident commander needs to coordinate multiple companies, or when crews are operating in an emergency environment.

We want to thank Deputy Director Ryan and the entire North Shore Regional 911 team. They not only answer our community’s 911 calls and professionally dispatch Manchester Fire day in and day out—they also work continuously to make sure the communications infrastructure connecting all of us is maintained, tested, and prepared for the future.

Public safety is truly a team effort, and reliable communication is one of the things that holds that team together.

Thank you, Chris and NSR911, for keeping us connected!

Just as this evening’s Call Firefighter training was wrapping up, the on-duty crew staffing Paramedic 1 and Ladder 1 responded to a medical emergency.

Because of the patient’s condition, three firefighters were needed to provide advanced life support care and safely transport the patient to the hospital. This is another real-world example of why adequate staffing is so crucial to the services we provide.

We remain incredibly grateful to our residents for their continued support of the Manchester Fire Department and our staffing initiatives.

Paramedic 1 has certainly had a busy first day in service!

1 hour after being placed into service, our new Paramedic 1 responded to its first call for service.
