This week, my team and I have had the opportunity to attend the Kentucky Prosecutors Conference, joining prosecutors from across the Commonwealth for several days of training and professional development.

These conferences give us the opportunity to stay current on changes in the law, learn from the experiences of prosecutors throughout Kentucky, and explore new strategies and approaches that can help us better serve and protect the communities we represent.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and bring new ideas back to our office. We’re looking forward to getting home and putting what we’ve learned to work for the people we serve!

LESLIE COUNTY-- Leslie Circuit Court for tomorrow is canceled. All CRIMINAL cases will be reset for 9/2/2026.

‼️‼️ JACKSON COUNTY CRIMINAL RULE DAY scheduled for August 4, 2026 is CANCELED. Everything on the docket will be passed to September 1, 2026. ‼️‼️

We are so excited to welcome Brittany Riley to the team! Brittany was sworn in today as the newest Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 41st Judicial Circuit. Brittany will be part-time with my office, and she will continue to serve people at her private office as well!

Brittany brings talent, dedication, and a heart for public service, and we know she will be an incredible asset to the people of our circuit.

We are also incredibly thankful for our outstanding team of assistants, Jay Fugate, James Wooton, and Jonathan Jones, who continue to serve our communities with professionalism and integrity every single day. Together, my team and I remain committed to seeking justice and serving the citizens of Clay, Jackson, and Leslie Counties.

Our office is closed today in observance of Memorial Day. 🖤

Today, a Clay County jury returned guilty verdicts against Dewey Collett for Burglary 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree (2 counts), and Wanton Endangerment 2nd Degree (3 counts) arising from a violent home invasion that occurred on November 1, 2024 in Leslie County.

The jury recommended a total sentence of 29 years imprisonment.

This case was tried by Commonwealth's Attorney Haley Jo Fields, with the assistance of Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Jay Fugate and Victim's Advocate Victoria Gibson. Chief Deputy Shane Wilson worked this case for the Leslie County Sheriff’s Office. We are thankful for LCSO, the responding deputies, witnesses, court personnel, and everyone who worked to ensure justice was done.

Most importantly, we hope today’s verdict brings some measure of peace to the victims and their family.

Justice matters, and violent crime will continue to be prosecuted aggressively in the 41st Judicial Circuit.

Today, James Wooton was sworn in as Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney! He will begin serving in our office on May 1, 2026. James brings with him 10 years of prosecutorial experience. We are so thankful to have him on our team!
