SO, WHO AM I AND WHAT DO I REPRESENT?
I was out knocking doors in Ward 5 today, and some of the conversations I had were pretty eye opening.
Residents told me that people knocking doors on behalf of other candidates have told them that I need to be defeated because I am a “Free Stater.” I am not.
I have also seen public campaign messaging describing the challengers in this race as “Free State aligned.”
Apparently, that’s the box some people have decided to put me in.
Those who know nothing about me don’t get to define me or put me in a box simply to vilify me.
So let’s talk about who I actually am.
Politically, I was a registered undeclared voter until just a few years ago. Before getting involved in politics, I wasn’t even familiar with the Free State movement.
I have lived here in Manchester since I was in kindergarten. This is my home. I ran for office with one goal, to help the community I live in and care about.
I am a candidate who believes in common sense.
I am a hardworking taxpayer, and my neighbors here in Ward 5 are hardworking taxpayers. Increases in taxes affect homeowners and renters alike. When property taxes go up, those costs can be passed along in higher rents. That’s why I believe government has a responsibility to spend your tax dollars wisely and remember that every dollar it spends comes from the people we represent.
I believe in transparency and accountability in government because those who don’t usually have something to hide.
I believe supporting small, locally owned businesses makes our community stronger.
I serve on the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee because public safety is deeply important to me. Ward 5 experiences some of the highest crime rates in our state. I am in Concord working hard to protect the safety and quality of life of the people I represent, especially those most affected by violent crime. Victims, families and neighbors deserve to feel safe in their homes and in their community. I believe violent criminals should be held accountable for their actions.
I believe in strong families, and I believe parents should have an important role in the education of their children.
None of those beliefs make me a “Free Stater” or “Free State aligned,” whatever someone intends that label to mean.
I am simply me.
I am a working person, a mother, a grandmother, a homeowner, a taxpayer and a small business owner. I work hard to represent the working people, retired people and families of this community so they can keep more of their hard earned money, feel safe in their neighborhoods, and know they have someone who will listen to them and give them a voice.
You don’t have to agree with me on every issue. That’s okay.
But judge me by my record, my work and what I actually stand for, not by a label someone else has decided to put on me.
I know who I am and what I believe. Most importantly, I know who I am there to represent. The people of Ward 5.
