The first step in changing and holding our governments responsible is to get involved locally. Your Coffee County Republican Party has made tremendous strides in the last 15 years, turning this county from blue to red! For over 150 years, Coffee County had been completely controlled by tax & spend Democrats. In 2014, the County Mayor and Commission proposed a wheel tax to fund their out-of-control
spending. Your Republican Party mobilized: creating a single-issue website against the wheel tax, printing out flyers and running ads in local papers, and fielding more candidates for local office than had EVER run in County history. The voters of Coffee County, weary from annual property tax increases and dreading the proposed wheel tax, turned out to the polls in huge numbers - electing a Republican Mayor for the first time since Coffee County was founded in 1836, handing several key offices to Republicans, and putting 10 Republicans on the 21-seat County Commission. Taxpayers have reaped the benefits of life under Republican leadership: books and books of property records and other vital documents have been digitally scanned and stored for easy access and safekeeping. The practice of paying a fine to avoid court and jail ended. And Coffee County property taxes have not been increased for TWO YEARS. As we move into the 2018 primary season, there is still much to be done. We need qualified candidates to run for key offices, and we need a supermajority on the County Commission. That will require EVERYONE - canvassing friends, neighbors and co-workers to find those key people who will step up and run for office to serve their fellow citizens. The work starts NOW.
