This morning at 0708, Manchester Fire was dispatched to the area of 42 Salem road for a possible fire. Responding companies found a basement fire at 32 Salem road and initiated a fire attack. Manchester Fire responded with five companies, stretched multiple attack lines, conducted searches on all floors and ventilated as necessary. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes. The house sustained moderate damage and is presently uninhabitable. Three occupants have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. One party was evaluated for smoke inhalation and refused transportation. There were no other injuries sustained. East Hartford Fire Department provided jurisdictional coverage during the incident. The Fire Marshal's office is conducting an investigation for origin and cause.

Quick video showing the thermal imaging camera scan of a scene with nothing showing. A concerned passerby reported this small tower to be on fire. Ultimately normal operation of landfill infrastructure with no problem found.

Manchester Fire responded to a well-involved auto fire at the intersection of Spencer and Olcott Streets this morning at 0953. The sole occupant and operator was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The fire was quickly knocked down by Engine 1 and Truck 2. Two lanes of Spencer Street were closed for approximately 45 minutes until the incident was cleared. No other injuries were sustained.

This afternoon at 1623, Manchester Fire responded to 84 westbound at exit 62 for a single vehicle rollover. While the vehicle sustained heavy damage, there was no entrapment. One party was transported to a local trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries, cared for by Fire Department Paramedics and Ambulance Service of Manchester. Initial reports of a second party ejected and missing were ultimately unfounded. The HOV lane of the highway was closed for a brief while the vehicle was righted and removed.

Today marks the 16th anniversary of the tragedy at HDI, where 8 employees lost their lives in a workplace shooting. Today and everyday, our thoughts remain with the families, the coworkers and all affected by this tragic event.

Today Manchester Fire participated in Manchester Recreation Division's annual Lifeguard audit at Globe Hollow, simulating a complete response, rescue and resuscitation of a missing swimmer. This multi agency drill involved Manchester Lifeguards, MFD companies and paramedics, Ambulance Service of Manchester, Manchester Police Department, the Connecticut State Police dive team and LIFE STAR, providing all agencies the opportunity to practice critical skills and to coordinate a system wide response. 📷by Mia Hickey

This morning at 1029, Manchester Fire responded to Walmart at 420 Buckland Hills drive for a report of fire on the roof. Arriving companies found several banks of solar panels on the roof actively on fire. A store employee had already expended several fire extinguishers prior to arrival, knocking down much of the fire. Companies extinguished the fire, secured the solar system and checked the remainder of the roof and store for extension. Beyond the panels themselves, the roof sustained minor damage. The store was closed for approximately an hour while companies operated and has since been reopened. There were no injuries reported.

This morning at 0057, Manchester Fire responded to 30 Delmont St for a structure fire. Arriving companies found a single family house with heavy fire showing and threatening adjacent houses. An aggressive transitional attack was initiated with 3 lines operated, vertical ventilation performed, and searches conducted on all floors. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Two occupants and one cat escaped prior to arrival but despite searches, two additional cats remain missing. There were no other injuries reported. Firefighting was complicated by a heat index of 90 degrees, as well as live power lines that fell across the scene. The house sustained significant damage and is presently uninhabitable: the occupants are being assisted by the Red Cross. Manchester Fire responded with all seven companies and received mutual aid from East Hartford Fire Department and South Windsor FIRE Department. The FMO is presently conducting an investigation for origin and cause.
