Every day, we know road construction and maintenance can be an inconvenience.
Nobody likes slowing down, waiting, or changing their route. We understand that people have places to be, schedules to keep, and busy lives.
But the reality is that this work has to be done. The roads we all travel on don't repair themselves, and the men and women working in these zones are out there making our roads safer for everyone.
What may be a brief delay for a driver is a full day's work for someone standing just feet away from traffic.
It sometimes feels like people are in such a hurry that they forget work zones are someone's workplace. Behind every hard hat and safety vest is a person with a family, friends, and loved ones waiting for them to come home. No appointment, errand, or meeting is worth putting a life at risk.
We ask all drivers to slow down, put distractions away, be patient, and respect work zones.
The inconvenience is temporary, but the consequences of a moment of inattention can last forever.
Please remember: Road work may slow you down for a few minutes, but those workers deserve to make it home at the end of the day.
Please slow down. Respect work zones. Honor those we've lost. Protect those still working.
