While many were enjoying Father’s Day weekend with family, members of Stone House Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad were dedicating their time to completing Command Competency Training.

Our volunteers continuously strive to maintain the highest level of readiness and leadership, ensuring the safety of not only the citizens we proudly serve, but also the brothers and sisters who answer the call beside us.

Training never stops, because when our community needs us, we must be ready.

🚒🌈 A Colorful Day at Daycare! 🌈🚒

This past Thursday, Fire Chief Karasek had the opportunity to visit a local daycare during their “Colors Week” celebration.

The children learned why our fire engine carries different colored hoses and how each one serves a specific purpose during emergency operations. It was a great opportunity to introduce some of our youngest community members to the fire service in a fun and engaging way.

With temperatures reaching 98 degrees that afternoon, the visit ended with a special demonstration of a fog nozzle, giving the kids a chance to cool off and experience a little firefighter fun firsthand! 💦☀️

Community outreach is one of our favorite parts of the job, and we always enjoy opportunities to educate, connect with, and inspire the next generation.

Thank you to the daycare staff and children for welcoming us and making it such a memorable day!

🚒 Who We Are

For more than 50 years, the men and women of the Stone House Volunteer Fire & Rescue have proudly served our community with one mission: protecting life and property through education, emergency medical care, fire suppression, and hazard mitigation. The department responds to approximately 5,000 calls for service each year and serves the area west of Manassas as part of Prince William County’s emergency response system. 

But we’re more than fire trucks and ambulances.

We’re neighbors helping neighbors. We’re parents, students, teachers, tradesmen, business owners, and community members who volunteer our time to serve when our community needs us most.

Whether it’s responding to a structure fire, providing lifesaving EMS care, helping at community events, or training to be ready for the next emergency, our commitment remains the same: Serving with Pride, Protecting with Purpose.

EMS Week is among us. However, it’s not just a week — it’s a lifetime. It’s our family, our community, and the residents and visitors we serve every single day.

We don’t do it for us — we do it for you. We do it because we care about you.

As we get through this rainy week, we want to take a moment to reflect on life. We all have our own families, but when we’re on duty, we gain another family — one that understands us and gets us.

The stories, the calls, the laughter, and the tears are what make us who we are. We wouldn’t trade it for the world.

So with that being said — thank you. Seriously, thank you. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

The 2026 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend is May 2–3, 2026, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty during 2025. We join them as we "Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters," making our landmarks and homes glow red

On Monday evening, President Brandon Smith and Vice President Richard Rubino represented Stone House Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad at the Prince William County Board of Supervisors' April budget meeting. They joined IAFF Local 2598 and fellow fire and rescue leaders in support of the expansion of cancer screening and advanced medical physicals for every member of the county's fire and rescue system.

Championed jointly by career and volunteer leadership, the initiative would add modern early-detection tools — including MRI and ultrasound cancer screening, blood-based cancer tests, and CT angiograms — to our members' annual physicals. Early detection saves lives.

For President Smith, the cause is personal. His grandfather was a career firefighter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who died of cancer at just 59 — a cancer almost certainly linked to his career, and one that was not caught until it was far too late. Occupational cancer remains the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths in the American fire service, and the carcinogens firefighters face don't distinguish between career and volunteer.

Stone House VFD&RS thanks the Board of Supervisors for receiving this proposal with openness and support, and stands shoulder-to-shoulder with IAFF Local 2598 President Mitch Nason and our fellow career and volunteer leaders across Prince William County as this initiative moves forward.

Chief Karasek and Vice President Rubino were in attendance to support volunteers across the county during National Volunteer Week (April 19–25), which recognizes the vital role volunteers play in building a strong, vibrant community and enhancing quality of life.
