I got word late Tuesday night that Round Elementary would be celebrating its 40th anniversary the very next day — Wednesday! So, I got to work calling alumni students and teachers to see if they could join the celebration.

Not everyone could accommodate such short notice, but I know that generations of children have grown up knowing Round as the foundation of their learning and their home away from home.

From Mr. Durko to Ms. Boatwright, Round has always known how to work hard and how to celebrate! The long-serving teachers and staff who were able to welcome my VIP guests were so happy to take a trip down memory lane and share their memories of the school, its students, and the countless lives it has touched.

It was truly quite a celebration — a wonderful reminder that schools are so much more than buildings. They are the places where generations of memories are made, relationships are built, and communities grow. ❤️

It was exciting to celebrate Micron’s first graduating class of its registered apprenticeship program here in Manassas—and to welcome the next generation of apprentices as they take their first steps toward careers in semiconductor manufacturing. 🎉

As School Board Chair, I’m especially proud to see partnerships like this creating meaningful pathways from the classroom into high-demand careers. Since launching in 2024, Micron’s Manassas apprenticeship program has welcomed more than 50 apprentices through partnerships with Northern Virginia Community College and the National Institute for Industry and Career Advancement.

This is what workforce development looks like at its best: connecting education, industry and opportunity so that our students and residents can build successful careers right here in our community.

Congratulations to the graduates and best wishes to the newest OHS apprentice! Our community is stronger when we invest in the workforce of tomorrow.
