🚦Sgt. Pellath’s Traffic Safety Talk Tuesday 🚦

👋🏼 And we’re back! Did you know? Virginia’s ‘Move Over Law’ requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles, tow trucks, utility vehicles, and other vehicles displaying flashing lights on the roadside.

🚨 A simple lane change or reduction in speed can make a life-saving difference for first responders and roadside workers.

🚓 Move Over. Slow Down. Save Lives.
IT’S THE LAW!

🎆 FIREWORKS SAFETY REMINDER – CITY OF MANASSAS PARK

🇺🇸 As we prepare to celebrate the upcoming Independence Day holiday, residents are reminded that the City of Manassas Park has specific laws governing the use of fireworks to help protect public safety and property.

📖 Manassas Park City Code § 9-53(a) makes it unlawful to transport, possess, sell, buy, use, ignite, or explode fireworks within the city unless specifically permitted by the ordinance.

🚫 The following fireworks are prohibited for use within the city:
• Firecrackers
• Cherry bombs
• Roman candles
• Bottle rockets
• Skyrockets
• Torpedoes
• Any fireworks that explode, launch into the air, or function as projectiles

✅ Certain novelty fireworks may be permitted, including:
• Sparklers
• Fountains
• Pharaoh's serpents
• Pinwheels (whirligigs)

👉🏼 However, under City Code § 9-53(b), even permissible fireworks may only be used on private property with the permission of the property owner.

🌲 Because city parks are public property, fireworks are not permitted in Manassas Park parks unless part of an authorized public display.

🎇 Organized public fireworks displays require approval and permitting through the Fire Marshal's Office pursuant to City Code § 9-66.

Please celebrate responsibly, follow local laws, and help keep our community safe this holiday season.

🔥 For complete ordinance information, see Chapter 9, Fire Prevention and Protection, of the Manassas Park City Code.

📞 Over the past few weeks, Dispatcher Ayala-Molina has worked hard to develop the skills and knowledge needed to serve our officers and community as a public safety dispatcher. Dispatchers are often the first point of contact during emergencies, and their professionalism, dedication, and quick decision-making are critical to keeping our community safe.

Please join us in congratulating Dispatcher Ayala-Molina on this outstanding achievement. We are proud to have her as part of the MPPD family and look forward to all she will accomplish in her career! 💙🚓

As if our SRO’s couldn’t have been any more emotional about the last day of school, our students had to go and make it even harder by gifting us incredible artwork! 🎨🥹

A huge thank you to the students who gifted us these amazing drawings! We may wear badges, but we're definitely not tough enough to pretend these didn't make our day.

These drawings will be treasured reminders of the friendships, laughs, and memories we shared throughout the school year. 💙

Have a fun, safe, and wonderful summer. We can't wait to see everyone again next year! ☀️✏️
