D.A.R.E. Day 2026 Recap

All 5th grade students from Stafford Intermediate and St. Mary’s Academy recently celebrated the culmination of their 10-week D.A.R.E. program, and luckily the weather held up for us to have a fun and successful D.A.R.E. Day!

D.A.R.E. Day is the culmination of the students' hard work and dedication throughout the school year, reinforcing important lessons on making safe and responsible choices, resisting peer pressure, and building confidence to make positive decisions from this point forward.

The Stafford Township Police Department would like to extend its sincere thanks to our sponsors and participating businesses whose generosity and continued support helped make this year's event a tremendous success:

• Tina & Richard Carolan Foundation Inc.
• Yellow Dog Coffee Roasters
• Chick-fil-A Manahawkin
• CMT Services Group
• TNT Strength & Conditioning LLC
• Royal Fades Barber Shop
• Dialed Action
• Party Crashers Inflatables
• Jersey Shore DJ’s
• Joey’s Pizza Ship Bottom
• Mimicus Marketing
• Edin Ice
• Coastal Roofing
• Stafford Township EMS
• NJ Department of Corrections K-9 Unit

A special thank you goes out to the Stafford Township School District for their continued partnership and commitment to helping us provide meaningful experiences and positive interactions between our police officers and students.

Each year, students participate in a D.A.R.E. Day T-shirt design contest. This year’s winning design (as shown in the picture attached) was created by one of our 5th grade students, who received a $100 Visa gift card and a brand-new boogie board for their outstanding artwork. Great job on the design, and congratulations on a well-deserved win!

We are incredibly proud of this year's D.A.R.E. students and look forward to watching them continue to make smart choices, demonstrate leadership, and positively impact their schools and community.

Summer Safety at the Primary Learning Center!

Today, the Stafford Township Police Department’s Community Policing Unit visited the Primary Learning Center for our annual Summer Safety Lessons.

Students learned about important topics including helmet safety, water safety, sunscreen, safely crossing streets, and staying hydrated during the hot summer months.

“Scuba” Tony helped demonstrate the right ways — and some pretty silly wrong ways — to stay safe this summer, which definitely brought plenty of laughs from the students!

A big thank you to PLC and the Stafford Township School District for continuing to involve us in these fun and educational programs. We hope everyone has a safe and awesome summer!

This past Wednesday, Chief Griffin, accompanied by two members of our Traffic Safety Unit, TSO Gio DeMarco and TSO Christopher Smith, had the pleasure of escorting a few lucky Lighthouse Christian Academy students to school.

The students, members of the Reinhold family, won the special ride as part of a Lighthouse Christian Academy PTF raffle. They also received STPD swag bags to take home.

Thank you to the LCA PTF for including us in such a fun opportunity and for helping create a great memory for the students.

Today, members of the Stafford Township Police Department proudly participated in the 43rd Annual New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics alongside the Long Beach Township Police Department, Beach Haven Police Department, and Barnegat Police Department.

More than 3,000 law enforcement officers across the state joined together on 26 different routes, covering nearly 750 miles while carrying the “Flame of Hope” to The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), where it will light the cauldron and officially open the Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games.

Our officers completed a 7.5-mile route beginning at 68th Street in Long Beach Township and carried the Flame of Hope over the Route 72 Causeway Bridge into Stafford Township alongside our neighboring law enforcement partners.

We are honored to take part in this incredible tradition that supports the amazing athletes of Special Olympics New Jersey and promotes inclusion, teamwork, and community.

Thank you to all of the officers, agencies, and supporters who participated and helped keep the Flame of Hope moving!

Today, the Stafford Township Police Department marked the retirement of two dedicated public servants as Chief James Haldenwang and Traffic Safety Officer Justin Pascale signed off for their final radio calls.

Chief Haldenwang concludes more than 25 years of service to Stafford Township. Throughout his career, he served as a Detective, Field Training Officer, instructor, mentor, and leader, earning numerous awards including Officer of the Year, the Medal of Police Excellence, and lifesaving awards. As a member of the Drug Enforcement Unit, he was instrumental in narcotics investigations that helped remove dangerous drugs from our community.

Chief Haldenwang was also widely respected throughout New Jersey’s law enforcement community for his work advancing officer mental health, wellness, and resiliency initiatives.

Traffic Safety Officer Pascale retires after more than 25 years of law enforcement service. He joined Stafford Township Police Department in 2002 and became a recognized leader in traffic safety. He secured critical grant funding, coordinated countless traffic safety initiatives, served as a RADAR Instructor, FAST Team member, Motorcycle Unit Coordinator, Drone Unit Founder, and became one of the first officers in New Jersey certified as a Traffic Safety Specialist.

Both were also instrumental members of Stafford Township PBA Local 297, helping support student scholarships, charitable causes, and community initiatives.

We thank Chief Haldenwang and Officer Pascale for their dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to our community. While we are saddened to see them retire, we are grateful for the legacy they leave behind.

Thank you for your service. Your impact will never be forgotten.
