BREAKING: The Choctaw Nation CRUSHES a proposed ICE Oklahoma detention center with one BRILLIANT move.
In a stunning rebuke to Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma just snatched up a massive warehouse that ICE had its eyes on — and shut down plans for a huge new detention center before it could even begin.
We’re talking about a 1.24 MILLION square-foot former Big Lots facility that could have been transformed into a sprawling detention site holding an estimated 8,500 people.
Gone. Off the table. And it didn’t happen by accident.
Local leaders, activists, and tribal officials made it clear they didn’t want their community turned into another cog in ICE’s expanding detention machine — and then they took action to make sure it didn’t happen.
The Choctaw Nation stepped in, bought the property, and cut ICE off at the source.
This marks the SECOND time in just months that a proposed ICE detention site in Oklahoma has been blocked — proof that even in deeply conservative areas, communities are pushing back against mass detention policies.
And the stakes are enormous.
ICE has been quietly pursuing a plan to convert warehouses across the country into detention hubs — some capable of holding up to 10,000 people at a time. That’s not just policy. That’s infrastructure for mass detention on a massive scale.
But in Durant, Oklahoma, that plan just hit a wall.
Instead of cages, the land will now be used by the Choctaw Nation for its own development — keeping control in the hands of the community and preserving local tax revenue in the process.
It’s a powerful reminder that resistance doesn’t always come from Washington. Sometimes it comes from people on the ground saying, “Not here. Not like this.”
