It is with heavy hearts that we share with you that one of our own has passed. Ms. Barbara Draper faithfully served our communities as a medical first responder for many years. She was also a dedicated member of our board of directors. As a first responder she made a difference on every call, many times by simply offering kind words or a hand to hold during many people's worst day. Ms. Barbara also held a vital position as a board member making decisions to shape our department into what it is today. We thank her for her service and pray for her family as she will be dearly missed.

- Chief Jones

Barbara Draper, known to many as nurse or Nurse Draper, was born April 26, 1945 and passed away April 16, 2026. Barbara was a longtime member of St. Paul Methodist Church where she was instrumental in starting the Young Couples Sunday School class. The group still meets and calls themselves

Hot Spring County is now under a burn ban due to high wildfire risk.

03/21/2026

The entire state is currently at a moderate wildfire danger level, and with temperatures expected to climb well above normal this weekend, conditions could worsen. Even small sparks can lead to fast‑moving fires, so we’re asking all Arkansans to stay alert and use caution.

If you see smoke or an active fire, report it immediately by calling the Department’s dispatch line at 1‑800‑468‑8834 or contacting local authorities.

Conditions can change quickly. View current fire danger levels and burn ban information here: https://mip.agri.arkansas.gov/agtools/Forestry/Fire_Info

With storm season arriving soon, have you thought about what could happen after you take cover in your storm shelters? Debris from strong winds could block the exit of shelters trapping occupants inside. All of our emergency personnel utilize a mobile dispatching app with mapping capabilities. If you would like to have your storm shelter entered in our map, let us know by emailing us at [email protected] or by messaging our page. This will allow our rescue crews to locate your shelter quickly in the event of a strong storm or natural disaster in your area.

We will need the following information:
- Physical address where the shelter is located.
- GPS coordinates of the exact location of the shelter.
- Contact information including name and phone number.
- Estimated number of occupants expected to be in the shelter.

Help us help you this storm season and stay safe!
If you have questions or would like more information, let us know.

Hot Spring County Transitions Emergency Alert System to Hyper-Reach

The Hot Spring County Department of Emergency Management (DEM) announces it has transitioned its emergency mass notification system from CodeRED to Hyper-Reach to ensure continued, reliable public safety communications.

This change follows a recent cybersecurity incident involving CodeRED that disrupted service and rendered the system unreliable for emergency alerting. Due to the outage and ongoing operational concerns, Hot Spring County OEM determined the system could no longer meet the county’s emergency communication needs.

Hyper-Reach provides a secure, dependable platform for delivering critical alerts, including severe weather warnings, evacuation notices, public safety threats, missing person alerts, and other time-sensitive information. Notifications can be delivered via phone calls, text messages, emails, and mobile app alerts.

IMPORTANT: Residents previously registered with CodeRED must re-register to continue receiving emergency alerts.

🏠 Use the Correct Address: Be sure to select the correct street address so location-specific emergency alerts reach you.
• State Highways (9, 51, 84, 128, 171, 222) are under “State Route”
• U.S. Highways (67, 270) will be listed as “US Highway”

How to sign up for Hyper-Reach:
• Visit: www.hyper-reach.com/arhotspringsignup.html
• Call or Text (501) 229-6656
• Scan the attached QR Code.

Hot Spring County DEM strongly encourages all residents and businesses to register as soon as possible.
