For nearly 40 years, Wellspring has been committed to helping survivors of relationship abuse (domestic violence) and sexual assault. What started as a small organization to provide basic shelter and crisis services now has a vision of ending relationship and sexual abuse in our community. In our time, Wellspring has assisted tens of thousands of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault—whether they needed an escape, were looking for advice, or sought to improve their quality of life, Wellspring was here for them. Wellspring is part of your community—we exist to serve you and your loved ones, and while we continue offering our essential safety, intervention, and support services, but we want to do more. We believe that educating our community about these issues and advocating for social change can help to prevent abuse and crises before they happen. In fact, our vision for Wellspring is ‘A Saratoga County free of relationship and sexual abuse.’

This is Kyra.

She was 2 years old when she was shot and killed by her father.

Kyra's mom, Jacqueline, left her abusive partner when she was pregnant with Kyra, but he reappeared after she was born, seeking custody.

Kyra’s mom repeatedly warned family court that he was dangerous. She reported stalking, threats, harassment, and concerns about his mental health.

But still, the court ordered visitations between him and Kyra, and they weren’t supervised.

In 2016, during one of those visits, Kyra's father killed her before taking his own life.

Since Kyra's death, 46 more children have been killed in New York State under similar circumstances.

These are not statistics.
These are children.
Children who should be starting kindergarten.
Learning to ride bicycles.
Losing baby teeth.
Celebrating birthdays.
Growing up surrounded by love.

Instead, their lives were cut short by an abusive parent.

Today, Wellspring stood with Jacqueline, survivors, advocates, lawmakers, and families calling for the passage of Kyra's Law.

Cases like Kyra's are heart wrenching beyond belief, but they are not unfamiliar.

Every day, Wellspring works with survivors of abuse to help them navigate dangers, strengthen their safety, and remind them they don't have to face this alone.

Today, we remember Kyra.
We remember every child whose future was stolen.

Ronan Woolfe how can we even begin to thank you!?

The Shark Tooth Swim (across Saratoga Lake!) was a huge success and we are so grateful.

This amazing guy and his close knit community raised close to $8k for Wellspring .. and put together a pretty amazing event, too.

For more than 25 years, Nancy Bunting volunteered for Wellspring’s Legal Clinic and stood beside survivors of domestic abuse with dedicated commitment, exceptional legal expertise, and an unshakable belief that no one should have to navigate abuse alone.

Long before it was common for women to enter the legal profession, Nancy broke barriers of her own. She built a reputation as a fierce advocate for women facing divorce and custody battles, beginning what became a lifelong commitment to helping women, children, and others whose voices too often went unheard.

At Wellspring, Nancy was more than a volunteer attorney. She was someone we could always count on. Whether answering a legal question, volunteering at our legal clinic, supporting a fundraiser, or helping a survivor understand the path ahead, she showed up—again and again—for more than two decades.

Nancy combined extraordinary legal knowledge with authentic compassion. She listened. She offered guidance. She empowered survivors to understand their rights and helped many begin the difficult journey toward safety, healing, and justice.

She earned the respect of clients, colleagues, the courts, and our entire Wellspring community through her unwavering commitment, and tireless advocacy.

Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she changed and in the stronger, more compassionate community she helped build. Thank you, Nancy. We are profoundly grateful for your friendship, your service, and the example you set.
