September is National Preparedness Month! An important reminder that being prepared today can make all the difference when an emergency happens.

As Chair of the Joint Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Management, I encourage everyone in our community to take a few simple steps this month to make sure you and your loved ones are ready for the unexpected:

🏠 Make a plan! Talk with your household about what you’ll do and where you’ll go during an emergency.

🎒 Build or update an emergency kit! Include essentials like water, nonperishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, first-aid supplies, and important documents.

📱 Stay informed! Make sure you’re signed up for local emergency alerts and know where to find reliable information when an emergency occurs.

🤝 Check on your neighbors! Preparedness is a community effort. Consider family members, older adults, people with disabilities, and neighbors who may need additional assistance during an emergency.

Emergencies can take many forms, and we may not always know when they’ll happen. What we can control is how prepared we are to respond.

A prepared community is a stronger, safer, and more resilient community!

Thank you for your continued support!
